A friend invited me and a few others out for sushi recently. Her first choice was Namiko, a fairly reputable joint off 52nd Avenue and Wadsworth Boulevard; unfortunately, we decided Shogun was a better meeting point. We would deeply regret our decision.
The service was abysmal from the moment we walked through the door. The hostess sighed audibly when we asked to combine their tiny tables to accommodate our party. She offered us no water and abandoned our table for a good 10 minutes, at which point she finally appeared from her hiding space in the kitchen. Mind you, the only other diners at this point were a party of three, who already had their meals.
The sake was warm — a surefire sign of a poor sushi house — and the sushi was worse. The tempura tasted like cardboard, and the tuna had the consistency of fish left in the sun for hours on end. I would have liked to have washed the taste out of my mouth, but again, our waitress disappeared into the kitchen for a good 15 minutes.
But by far, the most unpleasant experience of the evening came when our waitress told us to beat it:
""OK — You folks need to go home now. It's late, and my boss needs to pick up his child."" - Classy.
For miserable service and food that will have you praying to the porcelain god, this is your one-stop shop. D—
