Bad Experience at Shogun 12/20/2011

Shogun - always a favorite 11/2/2011

I used to go to Shogun many times a week for years for lunch. I always enjoyed the food, service and people. I went again today for the first time in years (I don't eat out much anymore) and found the lunch to be excellent and the same friendly fast service. You won't get a 'show' at lunchtime, and it was a little cool inside, but the table quickly warmed the area up when they started cooking. It was very clean and I was impressed with how fresh the ingredients were. The manager remembered me after 7 or 8 years since my last visit, great guy, walked me outside chatting with me. Prices were NOT high, 7 to 11 dollar range at lunch. It's still my favorite of all the Hibachi grills. more

Best Hibachi around town 2/21/2011

After a long day at school and work, a few of my friends and I decided to wind down at a nice restaurant. I have been to Shoguns plenty of times and each time I am greeted with pleasant people and exceptional service! The food tastes great and the sushi is fresh and I feel like it is definitely worth the money! If you want a good place to eat with good food and great service, I would definitely recommend this place! For the price, you get a lot of food to take home. Best hibachi grill in Spartanburg! more

WORST HIbachi 1/31/2011

Ok so I LOVE hibachi and I took a friend there for his birthday. He had never been to a Hibachi before.\r \r The food was bland and boring and there was no show. He did nothing but cook. It is supposed to be fun and interactive. I was so frustrated.\r \r The rice was bland; I had to cover it in soy sauce (something I do not do). The vegetables tasted steamed and watery not crunchy and grilled. The chicken was WAY overdone. The also do not have any appetizers to choose from. I was so disappointed. \r Oh and they don’t do Sushi on Monday nights, FYI.\r more

Not worth the price 10/17/2010

I have been to many hibachi restaurants and this is one of the worst I have been to. It's very small and dark. We were the last ones at the table and rather rushed along and the waitress never offered a sushi menu. When the chef came, he was not very socialable and barely said anything to our table. The food was way too overseasoned with soy sauce which made it almost inedible. The prices are higher than other hibachi and really not worth it. more

Best Japanese Restaurant in Town 4/12/2010

Don't tarry, because this place fills up on the weekends. I've been coming here every other weekend while driving from Charlotte to Greenville and there literally isn't a better Japanese joint along the way. What I like about it is that the sushi is always fresh and the owners have a heavy hand in making drinks. I haven't found friendlier restaurant owners than here and I expect that there's not a better sushi chef in the Carolinas. Pros: Very Sociable Sushi Chef Cons: Gets Busy on the Weekends more

IMHO: just awful comparing with other places 11/28/2007

You decide, may be it would be ok for you. But for us - no way!\r Here is our experience:\r It's November, it's pretty cold outside, it was a hard working day in the office and you would like to have a family dinner in a sushi restaurant enjoying maki rolls, hot sake...\r Inside of the Shogun restaurant at 7pm: cold, the temperature is almost like outside, no fun for us personally.\r We are sited in a smoking area, though we are not smokers and were never asked about that. No menu were provided, it took 10 min for a waitress to come first time and we asked her to sit us somewhere where it could be warmer and no smoking, we were offered even worse - empty freezing not operating part of the restaurant that night with all the smoke concentrated there. \r \r No water served.\r \r No napkins provided. \r \r Finally.... \r crab salad - and where is that crab? The salad consists of a lot of cucumber slices with a huge amount of vinegar. \r maki rolls - very loose, and I admit it - very loose with a lot of unfilled seed paper on edges, so it's for those who would prefer that black seed paper instead of stuffing which supposed to be inside of that.\r \r When we asked a manager about napkins and the food being loose and our experience and proposed suggestions to do something so people could only have positive feedbacks about them and enjoy coming back and us included, we were told: ""I hope you can find a better place in this area for sushi"".\r \r WOW, is that something or what? The manager is actually giving a customer away.\r \r And we are sushi lovers, we've been enjoying sushi over 3 years and always visit a sushi restaurant whatever place we go for business or vacation and never such treatment before. \r \r So, you decide, may be you can ignore a lot of things I've mentioned and enjoy their restaurant, but be aware! \r \r more
