Dr. Shlafer is the best!!! 10/7/2008

I love Dr. Shlafer!! He puts no limit on how many financially challenged families he helps as many doctors do. My wife and I trust everything he says and remembers us everytime we are there and that is usually for regular check-ups. I would recommend him to anyone. more

He is the best! 8/27/2008

Dr. Shlafer is hands down the best doctor we have ever had. I am the mother of 3 children, the oldest who is turning 18 soon. Dr. Shlafer has been our family pediatrician from the moment our oldest daughter was born. I will, without hesitation, continue to recommend him to anyone. I have always found him to be kind, funny, and great with the kids- but above all else- he is a concerned and caring doctor. My oldest daughter was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes 6 years ago, and Dr. Shlafer caught it quickly for us- and immediately directed us to Childrens Hospital. He would not even allow me to wait until my husband got home that evening- he advised us to get there ASAP. From that moment on, our lives where changed forever. I have always found him to err on the side of caution- from a small bump to a mysterious lump- he will make sure that all examinations are done, and all testing is complete. He is always available, always kind, and takes the time to talk and joke with the kids, to make sure they are at ease. My kids never felt anxious when it was time to ""go to the Doctor""- and as a parent, I will always appreciate what he has done for us, and the care he has given my family. I will be quite sad when all of my children are grown and cannot be a patient any longer.\r \r Marci Lee Pros: none that I can think of Cons: the Dr. is always ""in"" more

In Response to Brandy Young: From Dr. Shlafer's Daughter 8/24/2008

Hello all, I'm Emily Shlafer, Dr. Shlafer's daughter. Although I don't know the specifics of what happened with Ms. Young, I do recall my father talking to me about the situation and feeling genuinely heartbroken about the condition of the girl, wanting to do as much as he could. Ms. Young, my heart goes out to you for your loss, and I give you my biggest condolences. But please, don't blame my father. He's a wonderful doctor with years of experience, and he always puts his patients very first. Money is definitely NOT first priority with him... he has many a patient who cannot afford adequate healthcare and still treats their children for a price they can afford. He spends as much time treating patients as possible, and is currently taking a 5-day break for the first time in over a year to help my brother move into his apartment in Minnesota. He will also take phone calls from patients who call his answering service past clinic hours, for which he does not get paid a dime--he simply does it because he genuinely cares about their children. Again Ms. Young, I am very sorry for what you have had to go through, but I ask that you please do not put the blame on my father. He is a kind, caring, wonderful man, and his prime concern is the well-being of his patients. more

Sound Pediatrics is the best 7/14/2008

The employees at North Sound Pediatrics have always been caring as well as knowledgable of pediatrics. \r Dr. Shlafer gives excellent care in a professional manner. His common sense approach to ped's is refreshing. My grandson has grown under his watchful eye. My daughter and I are so thankful we found a pediatrician that practices similarily like our pediatrician who recently retired. I am hoping Dr. Slafter will remain in practice for all my grandchildren as they are born. \r Dr. Shalfer has no problem seeing under insured patients which is refreshing in today's reinbursement problems in medicine.\r While I worked in ped's we had a couple of children pass away. All of us who work in ped's understand how devistating it is to lose a child. Thank goodness death of a child happens rarely but when it happens it is felt by everyone in the pediatric clinic. \r Only the brightest and caring go into ped's and Dr. Shafler fits that \r mold. more

NOTICE TO ALL 6/25/2008

NOTICE TO ALL: The posting by Brandy Young on June 19, 2008 is false, misleading, and defamatory. As the attorney for Dr. Shlafer and North Sound Pediatrics, I am compelled to correct what Ms. Young has inappropriately written. She fails to state that she filed a formal action about the unfortunate death of her child and that, in that formal action, she not only named Dr. Shlafer as a defendant but also named Providence Everett Medical Center and Radia Medical Imaging. Importantly, she fails to state that the Superior Court dismissed Dr. Shlafer from that formal action without any finding of fault on his part and without any money being paid by or for him to Ms. Young or to anyone. She fails to state that the evidence uncovered in the case revealed that the health care Dr. Shlafer provided to Carter did not violate the applicable standard of care. She fails to state that the evidence in the case also revealed that the health care Dr. Shlafer provided neither caused harm to nor the death of Carter. Dr. Shlafer is and always has been saddened by Carter's death. Certainly, Ms. Yound remains understandably saddened by her loss. However, contrary to what Ms. Young would have you believe, the reality is that Dr. Shlafer was not in any manner responsible for Carter's death. Strictly from a personal standpoint, if any of my four children ever have children of their own and live in the area, I would not hesitate for one moment to recommend to my children to place the health and well-being of my grandchildren in Dr. Shlafer's good hands and judgment. more

Dr. Stephen Shlafer 6/19/2008

I would NOT recomend Dr. Stephen Shlafer for any parent. I lost a daughter to meningitis after trusting her care to this man. For 6 weeks she was seen by Dr. Shlafer regarding an ear infection. She was given three- 10 day rounds of antibiotics (augmentin, very strong antibiotic) and seen repeatedly because of her decline in health. She even had a lump behind her ear and I was told by shlafer that this was the lymph node taking on the infection. Well, it was not. It was mastoiditis, which was a result of her ongoing ear infection. Eventually, Dr. Shlafer refused to see us outright. Both of my daughters had seen him since birth and HE DROPPED THEM AS PATIENTS! He even sent me a letter that states I obviously needed to find another doctor if I am not happy with the care they were receiving. We basicaly drove him nuts with our constant nagging about how our beutiful daughter was getting worse. Since we no longer had a doctor, I took my daughter to the emergency room and she was diagnosed and airlifted to Childrens Hospital. She died a week later from meningitis. I wish I would have trusted my instincts. I saw all of these people in his office being herded thru like sheep and Dr. Shlafer seemed to care more about his baseball memorabilia and season tickets than my child. I listened to the words he told me that I needed to be patient, that SHE WOULD GET BETTER! He is a doctor raking in some big cash with all the patients he can cram in his office and he loves all of his baseball stuff he can buy with your cash so, go ahead and take your kids there, but please, ASK HIM ABOUT CARTER MCCOLLUM! 3/28/00-2/10/02 more
