Hello all, I'm Emily Shlafer, Dr. Shlafer's daughter. Although I don't know the specifics of what happened with Ms. Young, I do recall my father talking to me about the situation and feeling genuinely heartbroken about the condition of the girl, wanting to do as much as he could. Ms. Young, my heart goes out to you for your loss, and I give you my biggest condolences. But please, don't blame my father. He's a wonderful doctor with years of experience, and he always puts his patients very first. Money is definitely NOT first priority with him... he has many a patient who cannot afford adequate healthcare and still treats their children for a price they can afford. He spends as much time treating patients as possible, and is currently taking a 5-day break for the first time in over a year to help my brother move into his apartment in Minnesota. He will also take phone calls from patients who call his answering service past clinic hours, for which he does not get paid a dime--he simply does it because he genuinely cares about their children. Again Ms. Young, I am very sorry for what you have had to go through, but I ask that you please do not put the blame on my father. He is a kind, caring, wonderful man, and his prime concern is the well-being of his patients.
