Shove-Ya not Shiva 11/5/2011

Should be called ""Shove-Ya"" out the door. Very obvious the rude wait staff was not interested in serving customers, according to their hours of operation. We arrived at 2:45 for lunch (closes at 3:00), and were rudely told that the buffet was closed - the only thing that closed were the heat lamps over the food. We have enjoyed the food for the last five years, but will NEVER eat at Shove-Ya again - thanks creepy looking manager! more

SUGARLAND'S WORST INDIAN RESTAURANT!!! 11/20/2010

WORST INDIAN DINING EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD! You have a better shot at receiving good service from a fast food joint, than here. My cousins and I had been craving some restaurant indian food, so we decided to give Shiva a try. BIG MISTAKE! We arrived on Friday Nov. 19, 2010, around 7 pm. It was rather busy at the time. Due to the size of our party (6) we were seated towards the back of the restaurant (closest to the kitchen entrance and cash register) The table was placed in plain view of the kitchen entrance, where you could see the waiters filling up jugs of water from a hand washing sink. Definitely not something you want to see. **Just as side a note, we are of Indian origin, and it was apparent that at the time, we were in fact the only Indians there. I strongly feel like this is why we had such a bad experience. After about 10 minutes of staring at the menu, and countless attempts to flag down a waiter, our order for appetizers was taken. Not only was the waiter disinterested and RUDE, he was also very hurried to get our order taken. Fine, it was busy, I can accept that. However, I dont expect that kind of service to continue throughout the meal. After a short while, the appetizers came out(Tandoori Platter), and were actually decent. BUT, after we finished, it took another 15 mins (no exaggeration) to get someone to take our order for our main course. Even then, the empty plates from the appetizers remained on the table, all the way until our main course was brought out. Main course was sub-par, if you frequent other Indian restaurants, you would know what I mean. Naan was like chewy cardboard, and DEFINITELY do not order the Garlic Naan, which is a naan sprinkled with garlic powder, unlike other resaturants which glazed with garlic butter. Any time I requested something from our waiter, he would tell me that he would be with me in a minute, while he would go and serve a beer to another table or just chat another couple up. Unacceptable! When the meal was done, and the bill was paid, I asked our ""waiter"" to speak to the manager, who replied that he was in fact the man in charge. I began to tell him that the service was below average, and we were not satisfied at all. His general expression was one of, once again, 'Disinterest.' Over all, this is a place I would NEVER EVER visit again, or recommend to anyone that I know. I felt that many of the patrons were treated with much more care. If you care about having a good Indian dining experience, I highly suggest you try one of the many other Indian eateries around Sugar Land and the Houston metro area. more

Great Indian food and caring wait staff 10/31/2010

After having a great experience at the Rice location, I decided to give this Sugar Land cousin a try. Needless to say , they did not dissapoint me. The food was delicious. The spices were blended right, and the food was just perfect. Our party of four were very satisfied with the whole experience. The wait staff were prompt, very attentive however not overbearing. Hope to eat some great Indian food at Shiva's SOON. more

My wife and I dined here yesterday and we should conclude that the food isnt of great quality. We stopped by for a buffet and I shud add that after tasting food at other Indian Restaurants, I cant provide a positive remark to this restaurant. I should be honest and pass my experience over -It wasnt great food. Please try another restaurant. We sat for the buffet and wasnt at all good quite frankly. more

Great Indian Food!! 6/12/2009

They have a new location in Sugar Land Town Square, nice interior. We dined her last night with our family and the food was delicious! Their chicken(murgh) vindalloo was phenomenal! They have a lunch buffet for $9.95 daily. The only thing I haven't seen on their menu is a ""combo"" that other restaurants tend to do that include a dish, rice, naan, samosa, and side dish for to-go orders... I will definately dine here again, hands down some of the best indian food! The manager was very appreciative of our comments and said they specialize in catering, mentioned they had just done catering for 1,000 people! Highly recommended! Pros: delicious vindalloo!! more

Good food, great price 6/10/2009

Shiva's new place in the town center has a great look with beautiful choice of paint giving a serene feeling, Pros: Best Methi Mattar Paneer in town Cons: Wish the restaurant could accomodate 200 guests more

equally good as rice village location 8/25/2005

I think its great that the 2 locations can both consistently make such wonderful food. Don't count this one out just because its kind of in a strip mall, go to whichever is closer to you. You will still get the same excellent indian food. Pros: good parking, delicious food more

Good Indian in Sugar Land 1/5/2005

A good place to grab Indian food in Sugar Land. This is a refreshing change from all of the other restaurants around here. The lunch buffet is fairly tasty and affordable, and higher quality than Chinese and other buffets you will find. The ambience isn't fancy but does the job, and certainly isn't unpleasant. The location is in a nice plaza with plenty of big stores and other eateries nearby. If you're in the area and in the mood for Indian or just something different, definitely swing by for lunch. Pros: food, staff, nearby stores Cons: , plain, empty more

Inexpensive and good 5/27/2004

My wife and I went to the Shiva in Sugar Land tonight and we really enjoyed it. My wife had the spicy tomato soup and I had the lentils and rice soup. Vegetable pakora for appetizer. For entrees, we had the gosht dal basanti and murgh madras. Everything was delicious and the service was excellent. Our bill was only $36 and it was worth every penny of it. Pros: Food, Price, Service more

Food worth the money 12/17/2003

Shiva in the Rice has always been the place for us to have a delicious Indian meal. I am glad they opened their second location in SugarLand. I happened to visit their new location and I love every thing I tried. Their Paneer Tikka is indeed a treat, Tandoori Chicken juicy and cooked to perfection. Their Malai Kofta is beyond words, its gravy is the best. Their staff is friendly and warm. Good Luck to their new location.!!! Pros: Great interior, Relaxing Music, Helpful Wait Staff Cons: None, None, None more
