WORST INDIAN DINING EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD!
You have a better shot at receiving good service from a fast food joint, than here.
My cousins and I had been craving some restaurant indian food, so we decided to give Shiva a try. BIG MISTAKE!
We arrived on Friday Nov. 19, 2010, around 7 pm. It was rather busy at the time. Due to the size of our party (6) we were seated towards the back of the restaurant (closest to the kitchen entrance and cash register) The table was placed in plain view of the kitchen entrance, where you could see the waiters filling up jugs of water from a hand washing sink. Definitely not something you want to see.
**Just as side a note, we are of Indian origin, and it was apparent that at the time, we were in fact the only Indians there. I strongly feel like this is why we had such a bad experience.
After about 10 minutes of staring at the menu, and countless attempts to flag down a waiter, our order for appetizers was taken. Not only was the waiter disinterested and RUDE, he was also very hurried to get our order taken. Fine, it was busy, I can accept that. However, I dont expect that kind of service to continue throughout the meal.
After a short while, the appetizers came out(Tandoori Platter), and were actually decent. BUT, after we finished, it took another 15 mins (no exaggeration) to get someone to take our order for our main course. Even then, the empty plates from the appetizers remained on the table, all the way until our main course was brought out.
Main course was sub-par, if you frequent other Indian restaurants, you would know what I mean. Naan was like chewy cardboard, and DEFINITELY do not order the Garlic Naan, which is a naan sprinkled with garlic powder, unlike other resaturants which glazed with garlic butter. Any time I requested something from our waiter, he would tell me that he would be with me in a minute, while he would go and serve a beer to another table or just chat another couple up. Unacceptable!
When the meal was done, and the bill was paid, I asked our ""waiter"" to speak to the manager, who replied that he was in fact the man in charge. I began to tell him that the service was below average, and we were not satisfied at all. His general expression was one of, once again, 'Disinterest.'
Over all, this is a place I would NEVER EVER visit again, or recommend to anyone that I know. I felt that many of the patrons were treated with much more care. If you care about having a good Indian dining experience, I highly suggest you try one of the many other Indian eateries around Sugar Land and the Houston metro area.
