Long hailed as the best sushi by many Duke students, this restaurant has often proved to be a reasonable and delightful retreat from the ubiquitious fried food of the South. The tempura is amazing, and the dinners come with plenty of food that is not only healthy but also flavorful. The sushi itself is great (although I have yet to venture beyond the cliché of California Roll). The staff is also incredibly attentive and prompt. Both times I had lunch here, the service was horrible. It was almost impossible to find a waiter, and when we did, he was extremely slow to respond. The sushi itself is good, nothing special but nothing bad. more

While I am not a sushi eater, this restaurant has the BEST Hibachi steak...I eat it probably 3 times a week. The rice is wonderful and the entire meal is the BEST! more

What makes one a truly sushi pro! 5/27/2002

I had read one of the reviews about knowing how to eat sushi and being a pro at it because they had eaten at many other joints and even in Japan. Well, let me say one thing...........real sushi are not a jumbo roll or giantiac beanpole. Let me say the least, whoever thought or said they are then they are just full of it. Eating real sushi does not have much rice at all in the rolls. I mean, how can one taste the real cuisine when you have just what vinegar rice. You are all missing the real stuff, which is the meat or should I say the heart of the rolls and nigiris. I for one have been too many places not just Japan to eat real sushi but I am Japanese, and frankly Shiki is the closest to home I will ever get. more

Good lunch spot 5/15/2002

We frequently go here for lunch, and I can honestly say I've never been disappointed. Service is quick even during the lunch rush, and I love the variety of rolls. Pros: Quick service more
