The land for Shawnee Lookout was acquired in 1967 through major donations from Cincinnati Gas & Electric and the Cincinnati Park Board. Shawnee Lookout now covers 1,156 acres, featuring a visitors' center with archaeological exhibits. Other features include playgrounds, a golf course, a playing field, picnic areas, a shelter and three nature trails. A boat-launching ramp has access to both the Ohio and Great Miami rivers.
