I've only been to Shanti's Kitchen once but I've had enough to know that I could eat here frequently. Some meals are good enough to convince you that a restaurant is worth further investigation and others are good enough to convince you that the kitchen really knows what it's doing and that you can really trust them.
I had the Jerk chicken. It had a sweet flavor and simultaneously a strong spicy kick. The rice was perfect with any of the sauce that didn't stick to the chicken. The chicken was moist and tender. I also sampled the roti - a flaky flat bread and a remnant of Indian influence in the Caribbean. The roti is terrific. I used it to sop up the very last drops of the chicken's jerk sauce. The roti is available as a side or as a wrap.
Shanti's must mainly do a carry out business. They have only two small tables.
Other dishes include curry chicken, lamb and goat. Ribs with Guyanese chow mien. They also have some tex-mex food: burritos and tacos. I sampled the salsa. It's made fresh. It's delicious though perhaps too mild for some.
The food is very labor intensive. It involves cooking from the very early morning. As a result some dishes are only available on certain days and the restaurant is closed Sunday-Tuesday.
