We dined her as a party of 4 adults. We were excited to try out Shabu--a local had recommended it and when were got there, the restaurant was packed and lively. It is upstairs in a strip mall and was the only hopping place in the mall so we thought, it must be good! We were wrong!
Our food took FOREVER!! We were in a great mood and was enjoying each other's company so I didn't complain about how long it was taking, but under normal circumstances, I would have asked the waiter to speed things up!
The food was average to below average. The Firecracker Shrimp (""which people from all over the world come back for"") was unimpressive--I find the representation hard to believe. It was quite bland--the crispy shrimp at PF Chang's is even better than the Firecracker Shrimp. I ordered the Thai Soup hot (s)pot with the combination bento box. The meat, fish and vegetable that came with the bento box was very fresh and appetizing, but the broth was bland and uninspiring. The broth in a hot (s)pot is so important and they totally missed this concept.
The sushi we ordered was decent to good, but not great. The prices were comparable to Wahso, another Asian fusion restaurant down the street from Shabu, but Wahso was far superior! If you're leaning towards Asian food, I'd there instead! If you really need sushi, then Shabu would be an okay destination.
Pros: Good sushi
Cons: Below average entrees and service
