Love New Shabu 5/17/2011

My family and I went to the new Shabu and had our favorite dining experience of our vacation as usual. The new spot has parking near by and is not in a wierd mall anymore. Decor is beautiful. more

Sushi is Pretty Good, Slow Service 10/28/2009

I've dined at Shabu two or three times now. On each visit the sushi has been decent but not great, so it does seem a little expensive for what you get. Last time I was there it was crowded and I was in a party of 9 people, but the three hour wait was trying. (To their credit, the staff apologized and they did give us a roll for free.) Go early to avoid the wait. Pros: Decent sushi. Cons: Service can be slow. more

C- for food and service, lively ambience 3/29/2009

We dined her as a party of 4 adults. We were excited to try out Shabu--a local had recommended it and when were got there, the restaurant was packed and lively. It is upstairs in a strip mall and was the only hopping place in the mall so we thought, it must be good! We were wrong! Our food took FOREVER!! We were in a great mood and was enjoying each other's company so I didn't complain about how long it was taking, but under normal circumstances, I would have asked the waiter to speed things up! The food was average to below average. The Firecracker Shrimp (""which people from all over the world come back for"") was unimpressive--I find the representation hard to believe. It was quite bland--the crispy shrimp at PF Chang's is even better than the Firecracker Shrimp. I ordered the Thai Soup hot (s)pot with the combination bento box. The meat, fish and vegetable that came with the bento box was very fresh and appetizing, but the broth was bland and uninspiring. The broth in a hot (s)pot is so important and they totally missed this concept. The sushi we ordered was decent to good, but not great. The prices were comparable to Wahso, another Asian fusion restaurant down the street from Shabu, but Wahso was far superior! If you're leaning towards Asian food, I'd there instead! If you really need sushi, then Shabu would be an okay destination. Pros: Good sushi Cons: Below average entrees and service more

Feel like a sushi VIP 1/14/2008

The service teeters between mediocre and good, but the sushi all but makes up for it. The Firecraker Shrimp appetizer is fantastic and the entrees are innovative and fresh. The space is hip and the ambiance is posh. Great selection of booze. I went to Shabu for Valentines and it was fun and romantic. Pros: Love the site. Cons: A bit expensive for fish and rice more
