We used Sequoia Landscaping for a little over a year, but due to philosophical differences with the owner, Dick, we finally had to part ways. We used their lawnmowing services weekly, and also had Dick attempt to upgrade our sprinkler system.
(1) lawnmowing: Dick has workers do the weekly work. They use mowers, and do trimming. When the work is done, it appears neat and well done.
(2) sprinkler system: Dick did the work himself, and was very confident that when he tested it, it worked ?just fine.? but when he demonstrated it to me, it didn?t work: weak pressure in several of the heads. He gave several explanations on why this could exist, but none of them had to do with his work. The system hasn?t really worked well since. I?m not a sprinkler expert, so I can?t comment on why the system doesn?t currently work.
(3) philosophical differences: Dick?s number one rule it seems, is that he is always right. We had 2 experiences with him, where his true colors really seemed to shine. Both times were when his team missed doing our lawn on a given week, and I called back to discuss only paying for the work that was done. Dick assured me with 100% confidence that his team had been there, and I must be mistaken in not having seen his team there that week. For anyone who has 1st grade observational skills, it was clear each time, that the grass kept on growing, and that it hadn?t been cut. During episode #1 I was in the midst of traveling, and after playing phone tag, or engaging in conversations in which Dick adamantly defended his crew, it seemed like more of a headache to push the issue, so I just let it drop. And it was at a time that I didn?t have the time or energy to find someone else to cut my lawn. In the phone call after episode #2, Dick again immediately assured me that the work had been done, that I was wrong, and that furthermore that I was trying to cheat him, in essence calling me a liar (again). This time, he reluctantly agreed to let me pay only for the work that was done. He called me a few minutes later and apologized, because this time he actually did some fact checking and found out that his crew actually had not cut our lawn for one of the weeks (because in truth, their access was blocked by other work being done in the yard).
There were other separate issues of property damage that occurred during their work: the back window of our car mysteriously broke when they were here once. The timing of the break was very suspicious of their arrival and departure. But, I wasn?t in the driveway during the narrow 30 minute time frame when it occurred, and so I could never prove it. We had friends discontinue his services after damages sustained to their yard, to stones adjacent to their lawn. Curiously, Dick denied to them also that he or his team was at fault for that.
Cverall, if you want regular lawn mowing, and if their team does the work, then you will get good service. But, may God help you if you ever have a legitimate complaint about your bill. If your experience is like mine you?ll be called a cheat and a liar first, and then apologized to later if the facts check out. This in my opinion is horrible customer service, and is what made us take our business elsewhere.
