Tried this restaurant for the 1st time the other day. My boyfriend and I went after the weekday lunch rush, when it was slow. Even though there were only a handful of diners, our entrees still took about 25 minutes. My boyfriend ordered 2 enchiladas and a bean and cheese burrito. The burrito was almost the size of a pencil, and the tortilla was very tough, as if someone had overcooked it in a microwave. He then noticed he had peas in his enchilada--sure enough, when he opened it up, it looked like a beef stew, carrots, potatoes, peas. The sauce tasted like ketchup. I ordered a chorizo torta, that being one of my favorite Mexican dishes. I noticed that I had something else in the sandwhich that I had never seen on a chorizo torta. . . upon closer inspection, I realized that this mystery meat was HOT DOGS! Someone had SLICED A HOT DOG AND PUT IT IN MY SANDWICH! I've never seen anything like this in my life.\r
I called a good friend who has spent a lot of time in Mexico, thinking maybe this is a strange Mexican cuisine that I had never tried. She confirmed that not only had she never seen peas in an Enchilada, but she was pretty sure you couldn't even find Hot Dogs in Mexico. \r
I guess I understand--with the lenghthy wait and poor yet overpriced food, they must need to cut costs because they're losing business to El Maguey, just a few blocks east.\r
Moral of the story--just go to El Maguey. If you want to make a Hot Dog sandwich, it's cheaper to make it at home!
