Senor Fish

Senior Fish in South Pasadena is truly a gem. The food is wonderful and the prices are super reasonable. Where can you go and get a halibut dinner, grilled to perfection, with rice, beans and salad for about $12.00? This is just the tip of the iceberg, the Seven Seas soup is loaded with assorted fish, crab and mussels is one of my husband's favorites. cost about $13.00. The tacos are also super yummy, the BEST fish tacos in the world in my opinion, I have tried others but other restaurants are never quite as good. Carnitas, carne asada and the yummy potato taco also are favorites. The portions are large, the burritos are a thing of beauty. I usually eat half and take the other haf home for later. Favorite burritos in our family are the scallop and the carne asada. The reviewer that said he spent $30 on lunch special must have not been eating at Senior Fish, nothing like that exists in that price range. Three people can eat lunch for under that $30.00 price! The only complaint I have is the atmosphere. The photo attached to this review column is the old decor which was way better, They have painted the restaurant a dark red and I fell like I am in the dungeon, HOWEVER, Senior Fish did purchase new tables and chairs which are way more comfortable! Expensive and tailor made for the less diverse palette. Watch out for the fish taco special platter with small ceviche, which is served in a salsa cup. $30 way spent way better at 7 Mares over this place ANYDAY. more

This place reminds me of my childhood vacations to Baja. The fish tacos are light and fresh, and the scallop burritos are HUGE and tasty. I always special order, and haven't ever had a problem here. The only drawback is it gets pretty busy around lunchtime, and there isn't a lot of seating. The prices are right, and the portions make this place a great find. We went to the Eagle Rock location of this little spot. Its the type of place where you order at the counter and they bring the food to the table. (This location also has breakfast on weekends and outdoor seating). I love the fact that there's a fresh salsa bar, (complete with ""Crema""). I've been a patron of all the Senor Fish locations for years--nothing compares to their Shrimp Burritos--Their downtown location has really tough parking, and the wait is very long at lunchtime. My only question is why they can't get past a ""B"" rating for the longest time at their South Pasadena location. We go alot to Senor Fish's because it is in the neighborhood. Get the fish taco special but order the fish fried, not grilled. It has more flavor. Large portions. Very casual. Just a word to the wise, your chances of getting your order right are about 50-50 here. I dont know why that is, perhaps it's just lack of attention by the staff. I'm not sure why it wasn't recommended (maybe the hole in the wall decor), but Senor Fish is a pretty awesome burrito joint. Even the ""hole in the wall"" aspect of it is not really all that bad - it's clean, just not all that fancy. I've been hooked ever since a friend (Pasadena native) recommended it to me. more

This place is delicious. The menu selection is pretty good. You can get several different types of meat and fish, ceviche, tacos, tostadas, enchiladas, salads, sandwiches, beans, chips, salsa, guacamole, etc The potato tacos are great and so are the fish tacos. They give you lots of lemon for the fish and it's soooo good. I also love the shrimp enchiladas and the scallops. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, and the portions are good sized. My family and I frequent this place! The fish tacos are to die for. Its a small place right next to a coffee shop and a laundrymat. I see many of the laundrymat patrons put a load of clothes in and go to Senor Fish for lunch or dinner. The condiment area has so many things to choose from, I usually get everything! The sour cream is the best I've ever tasted! It goes well with the potato tacos if you're into veggie. I love that they offer radishes too! Everyone should check it out. You know that feeling when the sides of your mouth becomes all wet with wanting something?... tacos do that to me. well a few other things do too.. but Senor Fish tacos in particular have that effect on me. Sitting on freeways and thinking about their potato tacos will get me a speeding ticket. Overall, I found this to be a great eating experience. Everything tastes like homemade (like you WISH your mom know how to cook like this). This is definitely a great place w/ a laid back atmosphere. more

The rave reviews you read are all true--it's one of the best fish tacos I've ever had. Perfectly crisped fish, cunchy cabbage, crema, lime, and corn tortilla form a perfect union in the hands of this kitchen. My only complaint? The parking lot fills up far too quickly. more

The fish tacos are terrific, and the condiment bar abounds with salsas, cilantro, radishes, and lemon wedges. This location started serving breakfast a few months ago, and though the food is good, the morning service is slow -- especially if the laundromat next door is crowded. more
