The worst experience Ever, The Sushi was Mushi and the servi 9/21/2010

I placed a delivery order to be delivered to the bar which I work in. They were pretty prompt about getting to me quickly so I tipped him pretty good. I ordered Miso soup, the Joy Roll and the Seared White Tuna Salad, which the description simply read, ""Seared White Tuna on a bed of Greens"". The soup was delicious and still hot, but really how can you mess up Miso Soup?! The roll on the other hand was pure mush i almost gagged trying to chew it because it felt like the more I chewed the more it would expand, making it very difficult to make it go down... I ate 2 pieces then threw the rest away. I opened up the salad and what a disaster that was. The Tuna looked like Tilapia barely anything raw about it at all, and to make it even worse they had taken what looked like a cup of Pickled Ginger and threw it in the middle of the greens, maybe they were out of greens I don't know but it was awful, overcooked, and there was nothing written about ginger on the menu anywhere. Well being the only Bartender in the bar and it now becoming happy hour I got busy and did not get a chance to call them up til around 8pm the closing of my shift. They told me over the phone that since I waited so long to call that the Tuna in the Salad had cooked itself by Marinating in the dressing, and there's nothing they could do, I told them I'd stop by after my shift to show them what I was talking about. Upon entering the empty restaurant around 9:30pm, there were 2 young guys behind the sushi counter a blond waitress sitting and a somewhat looking Asian waitress asking me about my problem. When I told her the 2 boys behind the sushi counter started talking real loud and said ""Have another Whiskey Bitch!"" and kept going with rude comments after everything I had said that bothered me about my meal. Angered by these comments and of course the name calling, I turned the conversation to them, I simply told them that the tuna was overcooked and that the menu description said nothing about ginger in it. The smaller of the 2 boys said that he cooked the tuna himself and that i should not have waited 4 hours to complain about it and that I was f'ing crazy and had no idea what i was talking about, and that pickled ginger came with all there sushi, I explained that it was not in the menu description and that seared meant around the edges not half way cooked completely thru... They told me to get out of the restaurant and not order again if i did not like it, I told him i would and that when I returned to work i would rip up all the menus and tell everyone I knew about my experience there and make sure that they would not have any return or new business form anyone I knew or would come to talk about good sushi with. The smaller boy said ""We don't need your business anyways Bitch!"" I flipped them off and walked out... I was so heated over this experience and I am getting there again after writing this. I'm sure that none of them had any manager experience and I have yet to go back to tell the manager or owner about what had happened. Just Be aware of Crazy activity if you decide to go here... I highly recommend Wasabi in the Marigny or Kyoto uptown on Prytania. Even Saki Cafe or Hoshun... Do not go to Samurai, Most locals agree, I promise. If it were an option this place would receive negative stars from me. more

Joy On Decatur 10/8/2009

Having heard good things about the place, my boyfriend and I made a point of stopping in for lunch last month. We were not disappointed!\r \r It's always a little touch and go when you try a new sushi place, so we hedged our bets, ordered some sashimi, tried a couple of familiar rolls and splashed out on a few that are unique to Sekisui.\r \r Everything was freshly made with quality ingredients but the standout of the meal was the Decatur Roll. With grilled tuna outside, chilled crawfish and other yumminess inside, it was tasty and inventive - spicy, salty, crunchy, tender and sweet all at once. Much joy!\r \r The service at Sekisui is pleasant and efficient. We felt neither rushed nor ignored, which is nice when you're lingering over lunch. All in all, Sekisui is a great delivery or dine in option. You won’t be disappointed.\r \r \r \r \r Pros: Uncommon hand rolls, Delivery in the Quarter and CBD more

Best Sashimi in New Orleans 11/24/2008

Sundays are the worst because so many restaurants are closed, but my family found a place to get great sushi and sashimi at Samurai Sushi. I tried the miso soup, fresh salmon sushi, salmon and yellowtail sashimi, and the fresh salmon and avocado roll. The miso soup was pretty standard, with nothing to complain about. I was thoroughly impressed by the fresh salmon sashimi. It was a good size, and very fresh, with just the right amount of salmon fat. The yellowtail sashimi was also delicious. The fresh salmon and avocado roll was good. It came in 6 small pieces, but was less than $5. Finally, the waitress was very attentive, which makes all the difference. Pros: Service, Clean Restroom Cons: Parking more

Willing to travel for 8/5/2007

I've had sushi from a lot of places all over the US and this is the BEST sushi I have ever had. I would be willing to travel from anywhere in the world to eat there. The service was fantastic the few times I've been there. I LOVE THAT PLACE. Pros: It's all good Cons: nothing more

like a breath of clean air 8/23/2005

When I worked in the French Quarter, I used to order delivery from Samurai at least twice/week, without ever stepping a foot into their restaurant. Being in that area recently, I finally dined in and I was in love all over again! The delivery service was excellent from two years ago; now, I am impressed with the swift waitstaff, exotically beautiful rolls, fresh sushi and the spicy shumai that was ejecting from my nostrils. I confidently proclaim: BEST SUSHI in N.O.! Pros: Excellent Service, aestically appetizing Cons: search for parking more
