Pros: \r 1. The live entertainment was fun and interesting. \r 2. The grilled tomatoes were really good, but really needed better bread served with them to make it a good dish....

best dinner and live entertainment value around 1/20/2009

I've been twice now after reading the reviews and I thought the tapas were fine. I ordered potatas rio brava, skewered pork loin, cheese plate, ham, wonderful garlic mushrooms, shrimp, and artichoke spread. Everything was just fine, no complaints and I am a picky diner. What I really enjoy about this restaurant is that on Thursday night, around 8pm, you can get a table near the band and listen and watch a fabulous guitar player. The band plays TX. rock like Stevie Ray to Blues and more. Eat tapas and drink sangria and listen to a band they should charge a cover for ...all for about $50. a full table depending on how hungry and thirsty your table is. more

Mehhhh! 9/27/2008

Pros: \r 1. The live entertainment was fun and interesting. \r 2. The grilled tomatoes were really good, but really needed better bread served with them to make it a good dish.\r \r \r Cons: \r 1.The tomato toast was so bad that we had to send it back. \r 2. The garlic mushrooms were tasteless and drowned in olive oil. I don?t think they were even salted. \r 3. The calamari was the worst I have ever had. They were cool by the time they came out and they must have been cooked on too low of heat because the batter wasn?t crispy but soggy and oily instead. \r 4. Lastly, the whiskey tenderloin was a very thin and wasn?t really good. And the French fries that they are served with aren?t anything spectacular. That dish is not worth $17 by any means. \r 5. Took 5 mins before a waiter came by after being seated to get the drink orders. Then 40 mins to get the food, which is kind of excessive considering.\r All in all, I would not do it again. more

Hurray! Spanish returns to Austin! 8/13/2008

After spending a summer in Madrid a while back, I've always looked out for Spanish restaurants in Austin. Malaga, not so much. This place was the real deal. Good tortilla espanola, good patatas bravas, good gazpacho, excellent cochinillo asado (""cochinillo segovia""). Only two down points. One was the takeout service - with two kids we do takeout a lot, this place has a to go menu on their web site, so they are sort of geared up for that business, but the packaging was not so good, one of our gazpacho containers spilled on the way out the door into the plastic bag, as did some of the patatas bravas sauce. The paella tasted good, but I don't think they strained the seafood stock adequately before using it to make the rice, there were little bits of shrimp shell in most bites, enough to be bothersome. On the whole though, we enjoyed our meal. I'd definitely recommend this place. Pros: Good prices, good food Cons: takeout containers leaky, paella a little chunky more
