Second St. Lunch is probably the best restuarant ever. It is the only place to get a hot dog and fries smothered in cheese and bacon. Club Rachel is delicious!!! GO THERE or your missing out Pros: good food Cons: nothing more

I heard the 2nd st. lunch was a RR institution before visiting. It's small and dumpy with horrible food. I ordered a burger (their signature entree) that arrived over-cooked and was a poor excuse for beef. Not even sure if it was beef? The service was slow and it appeared that it was painful for anyone to do anything in a hurry. I spoke to Danny, the owner, he was nice and apologized for the problem. I didn't trust his sincerity and left there with a bad taste in my mouth (both literally & figuratively). The place is in dire need of a remodel job. I would never patronize the 2nd St. Lunch again. I have grown up going eating at 2nd street lunch and yes Brenda is the best server there. They have the best food in RR and everytime i go back to the area I eat there. My mom is Brenda and she has a lot of regular customers there. Can't wait til october wen i can come get me an annwich. more

Let me start by saying that unlike the previous reviewers, I still reside in Roanoke Rapids, and have been eating at 2nd Street every week, 1-3 times a week, for the last 25 years! If you have never eaten there, let me suggest the Annwich combo. ITs a large burger any way you want it, and an order of fries. Add a sweat tea and you've got the best meal you'll ever eat!! If your appetite is large like mine... add a Chilli cheese dog. *lol* The wait staff has been there for YEARS! I was giving my order to a few of these women 25 years ago as a child!! And now I have one particular waitress that waits on me. I don't go if she isn't working. *lol* She knows what I want, I seldom change it, and the drink hits the table seconds after I do. Brenda is by far the BEST SERVER in the place. Pros: BEST HOT DOG AND HAMBURGER IN TOWN, GREAT STAFF Cons: restrooms are VERY SMALL, gets crowded QUICKLY at lunch time more

My family and i always try to get by there to eat everytime we are in town. They have the best Hotdogs and Hamburgers you could ever taste. The food taste just like it did 30 yrs ago when it was located down the street in a little building on the side. I would recommend this place to anyone who likes burgers and hotdogs the old fashion way. About the only difference i have seen change in the past 30 yrs,Besides the building is the waitstaff. Some seem very lazy and you can almost see the pain in their faces because they have to wait on you. Also, If you have been in there eating and the phone rings for a take-out, Nobody seems to want to answer it because i gueess they figure it will be more work for them. Every time I return to my home town of Roanoke Rapids, my kids and I can't wait to go to 2nd street for hamburgers and hot dogs. My parents, brother, children, and I all have our standard order. My parents, my brother, and I have not looked at the menu in over 20 years, because we all know what we want, and it is just as good now as it was way back then. It is our favorite place to eat in North Carolina. The same people have been working there for 25-30 years. Every time I go there I see other people who grew up here and moved away and are stopping at 2nd Street while they are in town. The hamburgers are so delicious they practically melt in your mouth. And you can feed the whole family for less than $15. Pros: best hamburbers, best hot dogs, very inexpensive Cons: needs remodeling more
