When we needed a new dishwasher and a new dryer both in the same week, I did some research and found that two rated "values" could be found at Sears, so we decided to head out on a Saturday afternoon and purchase our appliances. We got to the Bel Air location and were quickly mobbed by salespeople. I was armed with information on their most current "sale" and also knew exactly what model/brand I wanted. I figured this was the best way to avoid getting sold things I did NOT want.
After sorting out the various "sales and promotions" we had agreed to sign up for the store credit card to get 0% financing on top of other sales/promotions. However, once the salesman was writing up our purchases, he told us that we could only have one promotional offer and we had to choose. So we told him to tear up our credit application. He said that was NOT possible and told us "just don't use the card." This was after we had settled on a dryer we didn't want at first (the one we wanted wasn't in stock) and we'd been told that we couldn't get free shipping. The whole experience felt like a "fast one." He couldn't even tell us if the dryer we were buying had a certain feature -- he just "assumed it did because the other model did." Um, okay, no. So we walked out buying NOTHING.
I then went home and called Sears.com. They also were very ill-equiped to answer questions about their products or their promotion/sales. The "online specialist" couldn't even find the machine I wanted on the website, even though I gave her the item number and was looking at it on my own computer!
We did get our credit application removed from the system by calling the credit department. They said "no problem," so clearly the salesperson was trying to swindle us into keeping the credit card. It was terrible and I won't be going back to Sears in the future for appliances.
