I was referred to Dr. Kossari for a pelvic exam, based on a referral from my primary doctor. However, my doctor had written ?menopause? on the referral slip, implying that I wanted to talk about that, rather than have an exam, so there was a bit of confusion between the attendant and myself as to what I wanted and what Dr. Kossari would provide.
She spoke with Dr. Kossari, returned shortly, handed me a paper apron, and told me to undress from the waist down, which I did, and left the room.
When the doctor arrived, rather than knock, Dr. Kossari barged in, nearly startling me off the exam table. He proceeded to ask me about the menopause situation the way his attendant had and then, when he realized I was there for the well-woman exam, he took another paper cover from under a cabinet, handed it to me, and told me to undress from the waist up! He then left the room.
I did as instructed. After a few minutes, he returned to do the exam.
First, he asked me all the pertinent questions about menstraul cycle, mammograms, etc. Then he proceeded to exam my breasts and was very brisk about it, not taking very long to determine anything, maybe five seconds for each side.
Next, was the pelvic exam. It was the most painful experience I have ever had! He shoved the un-lubricated ?pelvic scope? in, expanded it quickly, and then scraped my cervix and viginal wall so hard I cried out. He apologized but didn't seem too sincere. After he finished, he mentioned something about the PAP taking two weeks and asked if I wanted to know the results. He left the room so I could redress.
Quite honestly, I had all I could do to gather my things, pay my bill, and get out of there.
In my opinion, Dr Kossari was abusive and insensitive. His treatment of me was VERY unprofessional. I cried all the way home. If I never have another pelvic exam again, it will be too soon. With my next exam I am formally requesting of my primary physican a female gyn doctor!
Pros: Nice staff, waiting room is attractive with photos of the doctor's young daughter adorning the walls.
Cons: Below average bedside manner and abusive gyn procedure.
