Cheap quality water, both fresh and salt. And a truly stunning display, be sure to stay and wait for the surge to go! more

better than most 12/18/2010

I been to a few other saltwater reef stores but from what I read on SeaSchor I can not see the issues I read about. There was one guy they named like Timmy or Tony which really had a bug up his rear end. I was going up to the new Menards off Lake Cook and was able to convince the wife to make a stop at SeaSchor. Ok I met Steve and from what I can tell he was a very straight up guy! I was like wow this is the man which reviews are knocking down on?? He was able to give me some options on a new sump setup and was able to come over and take a look at my tank with free ideas! A few other stores I went to asked for a fee for this. From the price I paid in corals at this place were very reasonable. Compared to a few other stores its one of the cleaner operational setup and you are left with a rewarding knowledge of the reef. For anyone to get sold bad coral you should have checked on the coral or LEARN about what to look for. I'm happy to say 4 years later I'm still a happy customer! more

Sold me bad coral 3/27/2010

I was interested in a small piece of green slimmer which he wanted $90. I said that it was way too much money for that piece of coral. He said that he could give me a deal another piece he had in the display tank. I took it home and shame on me, I didn't dip it but instead put it into my tank. It had AFEW worms on it and my other pieces were infected. I called him and told him that he should check the tank out just as a heads up. He told me that I should know what I am doing and tough luck. ""if you don't like what I have to sell, don't come back"" That is what the owner told me...nice! He is rude and not a very bright person when it comes to treating his customers with respect. Especially ones taht called him to tell him that there was a problem with his main display tank and I was never looking for any refund. Go else where to get your salt water supplies Sorry to say, this guy Steve is rude and uneducated about the hobby and customer satisfaction Pros: Non Cons: many more

Awful customer service, High Prices, 10/16/2009

Steve Schor is an AWFUL enthusiast when it comes to the reefing hobby. Saltwater reefing is about being helpful, providing insight, and speaking with customers about their tanks, experiences and to provide help for those who are trying to learn about starting a tank, maintaining, etc. Steve Schor is short fused, rude, ignorant, obscene and uneducated. He has little to no clue how to talk to the people who are often spending thousands of dollars in his store. He will tell you that your existing tank is inadequate if it is any different than the systems he runs. The way this guy treats his employees is a sore sight. I've seen him boss his workers around embarrassingly in front of customers, bark rude and snide comments at customers, and CALL THE POLICE ON HIS OWN CUSTOMERS? Come on! What kind of business is this?? Take your business just across the street to Tropical World Pet Center where they are friendly, accommodating, and very knowledgeable. Pros: Absolutely None. more

My experience at Buffalo Grove Sea Schor! 3/19/2009

About three years ago my family bought a $20.00 gift card from Sea Schor at their old address: 400 West Dundee #16. Thursday March 19, 2009 I entered the store to use this gift card. I first asked the clerk if he had frozen worms (fish food), he rudely replied, we do not carry that. I then asked if he could order the food, the clerk then rudely replied, ""we are a saltwater store that food is a freshwater thing, we do not deal with freshwater."" At this point it was clear the clerk did not want me in his store nor did he like me as a customer. I continued to look around the store to find something to use my gift card on. I selected a digital temp gauge for $30.00 knowing I would have to add $10.00 of my money to my purchase. I approached the counter where the clerk was, put my product on the table, and pulled the gift card out of my pocket. The clerk said the card is only good for $20.00 off a $100.00 purchase. Not only was the card originally purchased as a gift card, no where on the card does it say $20.00 off a $100.00 purchase, nor is there an expiration date. The card states: $20.00 Gift Card with the name of the store, store address, and phone number. I was extremely irritated with how I was being treated and insisted the clerk accept the gift card. The clerk told me to leave his store right now before I call the police. He also stated, ""I did not like the face you gave me when I said we do not carry frozen worms."" I told him to call the police right on the spot with intentions of reporting this fraudulent act when the officer arrived. After walking out of the store the clerk followed us out of the store with pen and paper in hand requesting our names. He then began writing down our license plate. There were also other customers present during this embarrassing moment. We exchanged some words of anger and quickly left the store front in our vehicle in disbelief of how we were treated. I am in disbelief of the preposterous treatment we endured. Cons: Worst Experience! more

Service Drops with Time... 10/9/2008

We had utilized this service company for several years and found with the passage of time, their service and reliability became substandard. Often their voice mails are full and you cannot reach someone if service emergency is required. The quality of cleaning falters with changing of new crew and remembering to service on regular intervals often is missed. Pros: Knowledge about fish Cons: Customer Service, Reliability, Quality of Work in Maintenance more
