Scott Mc Lendon's Ace Hardware

Scott Mclendons Ace Hardware is a great store. They have just about anything and everything you want or need. If they dont (Rarley) they will either order you some, or call another store and send you in the right direction. I have personally gotten to know alot of the staff members, and they are all very nice people. I will continue to go there, and recomend it for other people. Keep up all the good work guys and girls. Beware of the lady with tattoos up her arm making keys... we tried to have 4 keys made and this cashier/key maker was the rudest crankiest person I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. First of all she made this simple task so confusing and frustrating, by taking our keys before we could tell her what we wanted, then blamed it on us for it being confusing to her, even yelling at us for her own confusion in making too many keys. What a fiasco... then she stuck our own master key in the bag to be charged to us and we ended up one key short! I still love this hardware store, the prices are right, most service is friendly, and will simply avoid the key department. more

Having grown up and lived in this area for most of my life I can tell you that Scott McLendon's Hardware has always given me wonderful service "with a smile". They have things you can't find in other/chain hardware stores (with comparative pricing), and if they don't have it, they'll more than likely get it for you. I don't know what Ray Z.'s beef is about the hours...they are open from 8am to 7pm on weekdays, closing at 6pm on Sundays. I wouldn't call that opening late and closing early. And as far as the checkers go, I have always been treated in a friendly, welcoming manner. I'm sure everyone has an off day at times, but I haven't yet experienced one there. Home Depot has never been far away, and Lowe's is in town here now, but my family will continue to shop at McLendon's for that neighborly service going beyond the norm, and the vast selection available. Although not the biggest hardware store around McLendon's is very well stocked. Not only that but you can order just about anything they don't have on the shelves. I've been shopping there for many years and have come to know many of the staff members by name; Ruddy, Rick, Jason, Keith ... The store is very well staffed with knowledgeable and helpful people. I, for one, have really appreciated the employment opportunities young people and retirees that the store has brought to Port Orchard. When the big guys first open they have all the help you need but in six months the clerks all disappear. When Lowes/Home Depot invades Port Orchard, my feet will still vote for Scott McLendon. At present Scott's store is the only game in town and I suspect that that is because of political strength to keep Home Depot out. Ok, so that's not too bad, but the store has 2 major weeknesses : 1. no matter how long you might have shopped there, MOST of the checkers can't/won't remember you day to day and store policy is fairly paranoid about ID at checkout. 2. Scott evidently doesn't care what time of day YOUR day starts--he opens late and closes early. Being from the BIG town accross the water and the ONLY game in town you'd better just do it his way or no way. Perhaps when one of the "big boys" I.E. Lowes or Home depot moves in(providing Scott can't stop it from happening)Scott will have already made his millions or he will have to get competative--taking bets right over here. more

This store is located at the far end of the South Kitsap Mall. It is affilitaed with Ace Hardware stores.This means that the national sales that are avertised can be purchased here.The local owners make sure that they have a little bit of everything that you may need to start a new home project or to do a fix it job. Besides just home improvement type of material it also has seasonal items such as plant and flowers for the spring and summer, Holloween and Christmas decorations for the holiday times as an example. I have also found many small appliances and houseware items to have comparable prices to retail discount stores. When you have a house or garden need check out this store. more
