I wish I had read these reviews before signing up with Schmiede as they are spot on.\r His team does do good work and start the job on a timely basis, but he took my payment and then you never hear from him again despite them not finishing the job. He shows up demanding full payment and once paid, they don't finish. I should have withheld 50% of payment until the job was complete to my satisfaction.\r They are not good business people at all, they lack integrity, and I would never use them again for this purpose.\r His prices are also outrageous. more

Mr. Schmiede has always taken great pride in his work, and the quality of his work is indicative of those high standards. Great service from Mr. Schmiede 2/21/2010

Mr. Schmiede came to provide an estimate in a timely manner. He was knowledgeable and took the time to explain our options. He completed the work the next day and the gentlemen performing the work left our property clean and neat. We couldn't have been more pleased with the quality of the work and wouldn't hesitate to call Schmiede Tree Service again when we need more tree care.\r \r Update: Schmiede Tree did wonderful work for us again a few weeks ago. They trimmed trees, cleared them away from our house and removed a large dead tree, leaving our property looking great. When a storm came through a few days ago and left a lot of damage to our neighbors' trees and properties, ours did just fine, thanks to the fine work of Schmiede Tree. more

Schmiede Tree Svc is dishonest 8/26/2009

This company charge for services that they do not complete, and Mr. Schiemede will harrass you for payment the very next day after the initial visit even when the job is cleary not completed, to include phone calls seven days a week, multiple calls after 10PM at night and showing up unannounced at your home, ringing your doorbell and waiting outside your house. Consumer Affairs have had many complaints against him. Seems this is standard practice for his company. more

schmiede tree service 11/30/2005

Schmiede tree service called back many times to out bid all estimates I recieved from other companies. We had a written contract. He did most of the job then never came to finish. His workers are excellent in their craft but Mr Schmiede himself is not honest. I paid in full(shame on me) but it has een 2 months now...he has not returned, nor will he take my phone calls or letters. H e agreed to remove 3/4 of the stump and has yet to do so. He made neighbors take down a fense in prep and move a shed yet he refuses to honor hois written contract PROS: his workers are excellent CONS: he bwill ntake your money and run more

  • Schmiede Tree Expert Company, established in 1955, originally specialized in landscape construction and ornamental design of rock gardens, waterfalls and naturalistic plantings. The firm landscaped large portions of the New Jersey Garden State Parkway in the early 1950's, by using all native plant materials and state-of-the-art methods including hydro seeding. The firm beautified parks, highways, botanical gardens, and historical landmark sites.

    Today, Schmiede Tree Expert Company is managed by Martin and Walter Schmiede. Both are state-certified experts who use the latest methods to diagnose current and potential problems for plants and trees due to disease, insects, malnutrition, toxins and negative effects of the environment.


    Martin Schmiede, founder of Schmiede Tree Expert Company, received his New Jersey license as a certified Tree Expert in 1961. His degree is botany, horticulture and biology since 1946, coupled with his continuing education and many years of experience have made him an expert in the field. He continues to share his knowledge and expertise, supported by his beautiful slide collection of trees, with Garden Clubs and other civic organizations.

    Mr. Schmiede was prompt for the estimate. Offered detailed diagnosis of the problem with our pine trees. Reasonably priced. Finished the job next day. Pruned oaks, maples and hedge. Treated pine trees. Crew cleaned up nicely. Very satisfied with his work. Will call him again.
