great for drinks only 3/11/2009

The only flavorful thing of the whole meal was the beer. We were there with 8 other people. The service was really bad, people got different food than what they ordered, some never even got what they ordered and it was NOT worth the wait. ~come on 45 minutes for a flipping Turkey Burger? What??? It was terrible. Even the salads were bad.Not one single person at the table liked anything..I take that back..the pretzels were yummy but aside from that....none of us will be back. I hadn't liked the food in the past however thought I would give it another try. It's a shame. Pros: Beer was good Cons: food was terrible and overpriced more

The beer is terrible, why would I think the food would be any better 11/23/2008

It's a great place to go and drink if you like their beer. They always try to sell rail liqour as top shelf. The food ranks up there with the worst I've ever had. If they totally eliminated the kitchen and just operated as a bar it would be a nice place. Pros: they always have some kind of interesting event going on Cons: the food is insulting more

Truly Disappointing 1/7/2008

I went to Schlafly with a group of friends for lunch, and we were completely let down from beginning to end. The table was too small for our party of six, but we squeezed in and began to look over the menu. The selection is rather limited, highly overpriced, and not especially appealing. I personally went with the chicken & andouille pasta, which wasn't bad (This is what I recommend if you can't avoid going here), but everyone else had to force their meal down. The portions are fairly small, which was probably good in this case. Items that should come with sides (hamburgers, bratwursts, etc.) either come with nothing or with a poor excuse of one, such as the ""coleslaw"" that turned out to be little more than a cup of red onions.\r \r I don't mind paying a little bit for good food, but when it's this bad, the high prices are just salt in your wounds. Gratuity is included, though at a much higher rate (17%) than you'll be wanting to give by the end of your meal. They will not split checks, so make sure you bring a lot of divisible cash or be prepared for the hassle of putting everything on one card and hunting everyone down to pay you back. \r \r There are MANY far better choices in St. Louis as far as restaurants go - I recommend most any place on the Hill, especially Zia's. They're not far away, half the cost, and easily ten times the quality. Pros: A few decent dishes Cons: Lousy food, high prices, indifferent service more

Used to Be a Favorite...But Not Anymore 12/17/2006

My husband and I used to love this place, but it has gone downhill. Last time we went there, our appetizer didn't come out until after our entrees (and I had to ask for it). My rice and beans came without rice. And our sticky toffee pudding was cold. What a way to ruin a great dessert. It took us 10 minutes to catch our server's eye to heat it up again. After we paid the bill, I talked to a manager about our poor experience. He took our address and told us he would ""take care of us,"" but of course, he never did. On the bright side, my husband and I can now get out of our ""dining rut"" when we're in St. Louis and try some new places! more

Fun beers and some great dishes 6/27/2006

I visit this restaurant every time I'm in St. Louis. It has a really nice beer garden during warm months, and the inside atmosphere is pretty cool too. I like getting the beer sampler to try all the current Schlafly brews, and I LOVE the goat cheese rarebit and the sticky toffee pudding!! Those are the best. Some of the other food I've had there is just acceptable -- not fabulous -- so I tend to stick with the rarebit and the toffee pudding. I hope you enjoy this place if you try it! more

Okay beer, good bar food. 6/7/2006

I ordered a turkey club that came with potato salad, it was good for bar food, nothing gourmet about it or anything. I think most people go here for the microbrew over the food anyway. Personally the beer was okay a little too bitter and hoppy for my taste. But everyone likes something different. I f you really like micobrew go here and grab a couple of beers and head elsewhere to eat. The reastaurant had a relaxed casual atmosphere, and the building was downtown in what looked like an old brick warehouse. Pros: Good place to go with friends and have beer. Cons: n/a more

Poor food, OK Beer 1/28/2006

The food was for most part over cooked...schnitzel, fries to name a few. Some food was under cooked not to order. Beer was good with over 10 on tap. The Scotch Ale was my favorite. No kids menu. This was the worst brew pub of many I've been to. There's got to be better in St Louis. more
