i have been a resident here at the Savannah Suites for a few months as I relocated from another city. I read the reviews before but needed to check it out for myself.
First, I'd like to say for the money...the hotel is absolutely the BEST!! If you need a reasonable place to rest your head the Savannah Suites is the spot. The manager Roger is extremely accomodating, professional and will attend to ANY concerns you have as a guest immediately and will do his best to get you a room. You definitely want to book ahead because it is a popular location.
During the inclement weather (i.e snowstorm) management made sure the walkways were safe, cleared off and the parking lot was salted and the street in front of the hotel was well salted, sanded, graveled...
The front office staff is very friendly & will go above and beyond their job to make you the guest happy. The housekeeping staff are extremely efficient and trustworthy. I have never had a problem with theft, inadequate cleaning, etc.
I have to say lastly and most importantly..the security staff is TOP NOTCH!!! They are friendly but serious about their job. They stop every single car and pedestrian entering the hotel property as they are supposed to checking ID's and I appreciate that. If you get locked out of your room after hours, they can help. They make sure their aren't any strangers walking around the property.
Now there is a logical reason they are an integral part of the hotel because the surrounding neighborhood does have a homeless population presence, however, they are not violent, nor will they bother you..they are just homeless. I take the train which is about 4 blocks away and the bus which is two and have never had ANY problems. That being said, that is primarily the reason for the security presence and it is perfectly understandable. When you stay downtown the chances of being nearby, close to around the corner from a homeless presence is about 80 % in some way shape or form...But it is just as in any city, you need to be be aware of your surroundings. Also the police patrol the area surrounding the hotel so that is comforting..
There is also a Cafe/NIght spot opening on the corner in the next month or so so that will be a welcomed addition, there is a Publix, Chase Bank and Walgreens a couple of blocks away and a couple of parks. There are several bars, restaurants and night spots nearby plus a few places deliver. The Civic Center is adjacent so if you are attending an event its a perfect place to stay. Well...that's it...Im not a relative, friend or being paid for my review, I am simply someone who uses yelp, citysearch, etc to get info on places I need to stay or frequent so I want as honest a review as possible..and if this helps someone else make an informed decision. Then I am glad I could help...I would absolutely recommend you stay here and you can tell them Golden Girl referred you...and NO I'm not a senior citizen...:) but I do have a heart of Gold!
