Finally--A Tour With a Difference! 10/3/2006

My wife and I are travel agents in Atlanta and because of Savannah's proximity, we visit alot and also hold ourselves to trying out as many tours, restaurants, hotels, attractions as humanly possible because we want to know what we're talking about when pushing Savannah as a destination. Frankly we've done a ton of tours in Savannah and if we had to name a top 10, Hollywood Ron's Savannah Movie Tours would easily grace our Top 5 and that Top 5 being a combination of the area's absolute best. Mr. Ron Higgins first of all is a 'local', born and bred, and a graduate of UCLA's Film Dept. He also has close proximity to working on most of the films shot in Savannah over the past 20 years or so. His nickname of ""Hollywood"" is not short on credibility. The day we were on his tour we actually met big time producer(and Savannahian), Stratton Leopold(Mission Impossible III) at Leopold's vintage family ice cream parlor of the same name. This kind of tour comes with excellence because its the kind of personalism you can't really ""buy"" as it were, but in this case---you can! I also thought it was cool that as a child, Ron had been an extra in the acclaimed TV series ""ROOTS."" Thanks Ron and be one of the lucky to grab this guy's star before he shoots off to another galaxy! Pros: Personalism & Real "Movie Star" Experience Cons: None to speak of. more

Most Entertaining Tour in Savannah 3/5/2006

My wife and I moved to Savannah because of the book, ""Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil,"" which we thought was the fifth or sixth film shot in the city, until we took a tour of the city with Savannah Movie Tours. Wow! We saw clips from the movies on large LCD screens, as we rode past the locations that were used in the movies. 65 locations in all. We even got off the bus and walked into the square where Forrest Gump was shot. Our tour guide, come to find out, is nicked named Hollywood Ron, who is also a filmmaker that worked on all of the films shot in the city in recent times. We take the tour every time we have guest in town, which causes us to buy or rent the movies. There's no other tour like it. more
