Satin Moon Fabrics

I come back here again and again for their beautiful, well-edited, well-priced fabrics - especially now Poppy has gone. Alice and Susan are knowledgeable and very helpful, so of course I try not to ask damn-fool questions, interrupt while they are measuring or helping three customers at once. I wonder if the critical ladies who wrote bad reviews simply had their feelings hurt, and might feel better if they remember how hard it is to run a small shop - and to deal with the public! more

The store has a lot of charm. The owner/operators do not. Their attitude ranges from snooty and negative to engaged and helpful. You just never know what you are going to get. The location is nice, the City does not have a many stand alone fabric stores, so it is a real resource for the Richmond District. It is fun to look at Satin Moon's selection, if you can overlook the unpredictable proprietors. I have been on the receiving end of their wrath, and it is not pretty. Why do I go back? I guess it's sort of the place I love to hate, like the Eileen Fisher store in downtown Walnut Creek. more

Customer service is seriously lacking at this store!! I absolutely agree with the user above. Do NOT go to this store. I went in recently to ask for a specific kind of fabric. The employee simply said ""we don't have it""..in a very rude tone and walked away. Not even suggesting other types of fabrics I could use. Being a novice in fabric, I would think that they would at least help me find something close to what I was looking for. This experience really made me feel that they didn't want my business. I was ready to drop some serious money, but oh well...they lost a customer. I would definitely rather go to Britex or even Fabrix across the street, where at least the people there are helpful and not rude. It was a very unpleasant experience and I will never go back there ever! more

A real gem in the city. Small store with hard to find buttons, ribbons, and material. The fabrics are very good quality. The 2 sisters who run it are fun and take time to work with you. more

I posted this on Yelp too -- I was at Satin Moon this afternoon and had to listen to the owners nattering on about how they were ""millionaires in property,"" and ""people don't save money. We're Japanese, we know how to save money."" These remarks, and the fact that they didn't even acknowledge me, led me to save my own money and not purchase anything. Why should I? They made no secret of not needing my business. You can find the same fabric at Poppy and Britex at lower prices and with employees who are actually interested in getting people to spend money at their stores. Don't make to trek to this shop. They don't want you to. And believe me, I never want to either. more

satin moon has truly gorgeous silks, buttons, ribbons, upholstery, velvets and more. This is not a store for picking up fat quarters for your quickie quilt project.
