On New Years Day my girlfriend and I were craving Mexican and were dismayed when we saw that nearby LaTolteca was closed. I decided to stop in at Santa Fe to give it a shot the the Undisputed Heavyweight Mexican Food Title. We went at Happy Hour on a Holiday and were seated promptly which was a definitive plus! The decor is bright yet strong red and orange colors with a large open preparation area which meets you as soon as you walk in. Happy hour brought great specials including 3$ margeritas and 2$ domestic bottles. Cue the tequila! The waitress took our drink order I immediately ordered a margerita for myself and a bud light for the girlfriend as she is a big more simplistic than I. I also ordered some freshly made guac. but was devastated when I was told they were all out! All is well, we will meet again avocado. Margerita is what you'd expect for 3 dollars but it was just what I needed! It honestly took me about 15 minutes to decipher the menu before I was ready to order. I got the Azteca Steak Burrito and for the lady Dos Chicken Soft Tacos. We munch on complimentary chips and salsa before our meals arrived and very quckly I might add! My burrito was very flavorful and the chipotle ranch salsa was not too smoky or zesty, a great marriage of the two! The steak was very tender and was obviously well seasoned as it alone brought flavor to each bite. The womans tacos didn't last long and when I asked her to describe them to me she said they were ""good"". Aw thank you hunny for the vivid description :). Anyway I was very very happy with the experience I had here and I would go here again before going back to LaTolteca in Newark Shopping Center. I grabbed a menu on the way out so next time when I go in I will have my mind made up when I walk in!!!
Pros: Authenticity, Menu Variation, Happy Hour, Restroom Cleanliness, Parking, Friendliness of Staff
Cons: Lack of Avocado!
