On March 15, 1993, Sandhill Orthopaedic & Sportsmedicine opened its door to the community of Southwest Kansas with the intention of providing quality general and specialized orthopaedic care. Now years later, Dr. Michael J. Baughman has watched what was once a five-man operation grow to include 30 employees and has built a new facility at Main and Fulton.
Sandhill Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Physical Therapy features state of the art rehabilitation equipment. The therapy staff specializes in rehabilitation to general orthopaedics, sportsmedicine and work related injuries. Our therapists want to help you in your rehabilitation process so that you may return to your job, sport, or everyday living as promptly and safely as possible.
Sportsmedicine:
As our name states, Sandhill Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine specializes in the treatment of athletic injuries. Dr. Baughman trained at one of the premier sports medicine program in the world at West Point. We are committed to providing the best possible treatment whether you are an elite college athlete or a weekend warrior. Dr. Baughman has established himself as the finest sports medicine orthopaedic surgeon in Southwest Kansas. He is the team physician for: Garden City Community College, Garden City High School, Holcomb High School, and Ingalls High School.
Our certified athletic trainers, ATCs, provide outreach services at the following Southwest Kansas High Schools: Cimarron, Deerfield, Garden City, Healy, Holcomb, Hugoton, Ingalls. Lakin, Leoti, Moscow, Oakley, Rolla, Scott City, South Gray, SW Heights, Sublette, Syracuse, Tribune. Our ATC’s athletic training services at the school include weekly visits for injury evaluation and treatment as well as event coverage. During the weekly visits to the high schools the ATCs provide injury assessments and rehabilitation services. ATC’s also act as a liaison between the athlete, parent, coach and physicians. In addition to the outreach services the ATCs are an integral part of our rehabilitation and therapy department.

Non-operative conditions are usually treated with physical therapy, appropriate medications, injections and restricted work activities. Restrictions will be re-evaluated and modified as necessary at each follow-up appointment thus allowing a gradual return to full duty or permanent restrictions.
