First, I have to say I'm a bread junkie. I actually believe that man can live by bread alone. Especially the bread from this bakery. These folks have created the quintessential Italian loaf. Crispy crust with a soft billowy center. The crust is a rich brown color...nothing like the flimsy soft crusts of so many breads that only call themselves Italian. This has to be hearth baked. You can tell by the bottom which has been clearly sitting on bricks and not industrial metal. The crumbs will totally cover the table by the time you've inhaled a loaf of their Italian bread. The center tastes like light and delicate air. I hate how so many Italian breads now have those dense centers. I literally can eat a whole loaf in one sitting and that's because it doesn't fill you up. It is so light and divine. They also make Italian rolls (which I've sampled at a couple of area pubs) and focaccio. The problem is finding it. The best place to get it warm is either Donatelli's Market or Groceria Italiano both in Bloomfield. I really don't know anywhere else that sells it off the shelf. They serve it at Del's restaurant, the Pleasure Bar and Tessaro's in Bloomfield with sandwiches and dinners. Good luck in your search for this outstanding Italian bread.
