Reading the review of the guy who bought a defective guitar that buzzed like a bee reminded me of my experience at this very same store.
In '04 I bought a reproduction of a '54 Fender Strat. I paid around $1,000 for it. Has a nice sunburst finish and sounds great.....when it's not buzzing......
I initially played the guitar in the store for quite a while. The store is huge and open, so you can't hear all the little nuances you might hear in a small setting. Anyway, I got the guitar home, plugged it in and I could hear the buzzing....especially with a clean tone.
Well since I had like 6 free setups, I decided to take the guitar back and let their chief tech JOHN MANN take a look at it and adjust. A week later, I picked up (assuming this guy had fixed the problems) and it was still buzzing....yeah I know, shouldn't have left the store without checking.
So I then take it back to the store so John could work it again. This little punk at the front counter asked why I was bringing the guitar in and I told him it buzzed. And he said to me, ""Are you sure it isn't new-string buzz?"" I about flipped out since I own several other guitars and have been playing over 20 years. So I pretty much ignore his stupid assessment and talk to somebody else.
Well I leave the guitar at the store for JOHN MANN to work on once again. I also leave my number for him to call me and discuss the problems I'm having with it. He eventually calls and we talk but he seemed very reluctant to do anymore work......I guess because it was a freebie and not for a ""paying customer.""
I finally get the guitar back and it STILL ISN'T RIGHT!!!!! So I get frustrated and take it to another tech. Come to find out, MR. JOHN MANN STRIPPED OUT THE BOLT in the neck to where the neck wasn't even mounted properly to the body!!! The intonation wasn't even set right. The tech looked at my guitar in amazement and told me, ""I hope you didn't pay for this setup.""
Now it's been over 5 years later and although my new tech has done wonders to correct the issues with the neck, my $1,000 guitar still buzzes!!!
For the record I'd like to say that JOHN MANN and SAM ASH MUSIC are total crap and ripoff artists. I will never do business with this company every again. And if I happen to run into JOHN MANN anywhere in the Nashville area, I'm gonna give me a swift kick in the balls for my troubles!
Pros: They sell guitars
Cons: They sell defective guitars
