Salvation Army Thrift Store

I'm not certain which of the stores in Anchorage the prior rater was talking about as far as items not being priced, but I rarely come across that problem @ Dimond or Northern Lights. I haven't been to the 3rd location in quite some time so I can't attest to that location. In the rare instance I do come across an item that has no price tag, I've never had a problem getting someone to price it almost immediately. One downside to the Dimond location (and for out-of-towners, yes- ""Dimond"" is the correct spelling), is that often times they accept donations of furniture that should probably be taken to the dump; not to a thrift shop. I think one reason they wind up with (sometimes) furniture in poor condition, is that so many people drop off their old furniture in the 24-hour drop off areas rather than making a trip and paying $5 to go to the landfill. It seems to me that the Northern Lights location is a little better about hauling off the furniture in extremely poor condition and not putting it out for resale, but perhaps it's just that they have the larger furniture area? One other section of the stores that I usually cruise through, but rarely shop at, are the glassware and kitchen appliances. You can find awesome items in that section, but you have to pretty much be there as they're loading the shelves. As far as clothing goes, of course you're going to come across some items that are in need of repair .. but for the amount of clothing they have, they do an excellent job of trying to make sure most items are in good shape. I'd say that just about every time I go there to look at clothing items, I've wound up buying brand new, tags still on, clothing that are priced LOW! My last stop @ Dimond, I bought some stellar Levi ""Silver tab"" button-up jeans, BRAND NEW, for $4.00. You cannot beat that! What I like best about all of the area Salvation Army thrift shops though are their sales! Wow.. Wow.. WOW! They color code the tags, so look at the sales board when you first walk in to see which clothing, furniture or other misc. items are on sale. It is very common to find racks and racks of clothing for 75% off and other racks for 50% off. The books are also a major bargain! Some people don't like second hand shops, but for those who do... the Salvation Army thrift shops in Anchorage are fantastic places to shop at! I was excited to see so many nice items: furniture, children's items, household goods, however, nothing was priced. And when we tried to ask the only lady working, she seemed frustrated we asked and would answer in such a rude way. And she would just look at items and give them whatever price she wanted. ex: one lamp would be $5 and an almost identical one would be $10! Don't think prices marked are fixed. Check it weekly for new items coming in. Ihave got almost all my aquariom supplies here for way cheap. I have got a leather coat that I get a tons of compliments on here. My computer desk needed some refurbishing but my nieghbor was so jelous when he saw it when it was done. They have the best prices on books in town but stay away from the kids books. O. K. I have made friends with people who have worked there and continue to work there for sometime. There competition can not compare with prices and customer service, which is why it is hard to find good stuff .
