High quality with Dr. Andrew Thompson 10/24/2011

My first visit with Dr. Thompson was today for an amalgam filling (mercury amalgam) removal for the #3 tooth, and replacement with composite. I was impressed at how efficient, systematic, and thorough he is, and that he very careful with how he works in and around the teeth and mouth. In addition, I was quite impressed at his great doctor-patient communication skill -- he is very patient, even with a busy schedule -- he is 0% arrogant -- a kind, caring doctor -- he addressed my questions very thoroughly and informatively -- I tend to be overly cautious and anxious and he dealt with that with ease. Also, he handled a pre-billing mistake in an objective and highly professional manner (a rare level of professionalism in my experience), and quickly corrected the mistake. He also found, during the procedure, that the filling would involve less cost than I was expecting, and adjusted the price. Very honest. I wouldn't have otherwise known. The office on Saltzman road is within a very nice square of buildings, including a children's school, a dance studio, and a couple other businesses (a pizza place and cleaners). When I came and left, there were many families coming and going, with sports kids, school kids, etc. A very pleasant, safe, comfortable area. Very clean office with advanced equipment. The dental technician was very helpful and courteous, even when dealing with my over-anxiety. She helped me become more comfortable, as did Dr. Thompson as well. more

Great Customer Service For The First Visit! 6/2/2011

Our family is new in town and we needed to find a new dentist . I called and was able to get an appointment very quickly for my kids. We were able to dowload all the necessary forms right off their website. They got our insurance information ahead of time so when we came in there was no confusion or waiting. The office staff was very nice, and my 2 kids had their teeth cleaned at the same time, which was very convenient. My kids loved the tv glasses and got to choose their own shows! Dr. Seeger was great and explained what a sealant was to my older child. We were given an estimate on paper of what it would cost, and were able to schedule for the treatment at a convenient time. The entire visit took a little over an hour. My kids had a great experience, and my husband and I will definitely be making appointments soon! more

Bad customer service 6/22/2010

I called to make an appt. I wanted to get 4 teeth replaced due to an MVA. Just out of the military after 13 years and this woman was pushy, rude pretentious. Not serving me but telling me, instructing me, demanding. Not service oriented. Acted like I needed something from her and I was going to pay the 4k right up front in cash. She acted like maybe they would help. Then she called me on vacation and made demands that I give her my insurance card info NOW. That this was policy and I had no choice to stop my vacation and meet her demands. The dentists might be great. I fear a great many people will never know because of the rude office staff. The Dr's could be the best but she deflects a good portion of their business I am sure. I don't say this easily. I became ill and she had been so intimidating that I was afraid to call and let them know I couldn't make it. I feel sorry for the dentists who own this business. Unless they support this kind of interation between them and patients/clients/cash paying injured combat vets just back from Iraq. I am sorry I missed my appointment but she made me feel so uncomfortable I couldn't get berated because I turned ill the morning of her demands. Now I am afraid to go there ever because I fear reprisal. This person who takes the calls has to limit the patient base. Unless they have too much money or too many patients then she is devaluing the business. If the Dr were to call me and explain, offer me a discount for paying in full and work with my insurance company then I would return. I want to end stating that the office woman may have been acting appropriately. I do not wish for her to get reprimanded, fired or disciplined. This is just my humble opinion. Maybe I scare easily or misunderstood. I would never mess with someones lively hood. Just because I was offended doesn't mean it was offensive. If they didn't need or want my business I wish they would just say that rather than treating me so badly that I didn't want to come and so badly that when I fell ill I was too intimidated to let them know. A friendly, wonderful receptionist can make a mediocre clinic into a highly lucrative business. I am afraid to call let alone show up. Please don't be rude back to me. I actually have altruistic motives and hope this gets fixed and I can get help. Lincoln Pros: NA Cons: If Dr's are gifted the patients never find out more

always had a great experience 8/17/2009

My wife and I started going to this Tendercare office years ago on a personal recommendation. We were tired of seeing downtown Portland dentists who made us feel bad because we didn't have perfect teeth, or couldn't drop a fortune on a single visit when they tried to compress our ""plan"" into a couple visits each.\r \r We were both very releived and surprised at how flexible, understanding and compassionate the staff were, and will never go to another dentist. In turn we've recommended them to our friends and family, who have never been dissapointed. \r \r With the semi-recent addition of optiona text/email appointment reminders they added another service that really helped us out. Pros: understanding, flexible, up-to-date more

Dr. Thompson's response to Carol54 3/17/2008

Dear Carol54- \r \r We would like to respond to your review of our office by stating our office policy, guidelines, and philosophy. \r \r When cancelling or rescheduling an appointment, we ask for at least 48 hours notice as it allows us time to re-fill the schedule with other patients. This keeps our office running efficiently, and reduces the need to raise fees higher in to make up for lost productivity from cancelled or missed appointments. We do not charge a missed appointment fee for the 1st missed appointment, or missed appointments due to sickness or emergency. In most cases, when we do charge a fee, we are happy to reverse it when the patient reschedules their missed appointment and keeps it. We only refuse to waive a missed appointment fee when a patient repeatedly and chronically cancels, reschedules, or no-shows their appointments without proper notice. This is a rare occurance. \r \r We do our best to return every non-emergency phone call within 24 hours. This is not always possible, especialy when the schedule is full. The other dentist in our office is Dr. Seeger, and together we developed the above policies and guidelines in running our dental practice. \r \r Our philosophy is to provide ""Quality Dentistry delivered Tenderly"". We aren't the most inexpensive dentists in Portland, but we aren't the most expensive dentists in Portland, either. That's not our goal. Our goal is to be two of the best dentists in town and provide the highest quality of dentistry we possibly can. We stand behind our work, do our best to respect our patient's valuable time and resources, and simply ask for that same respect in return. \r \r Sincerely, \r \r Mari Seeger, DMD\r Andrew Thompson, DMD\r TenderCare Dental Center more

bad customer service 1/23/2008

be sure to give at least 48hrs notice or you will be charged $50. No leeway, no matter if appt. is on Tues., you cannot call and leave message on Sunday, and try to cancel on Monday, you WILL be charged $50., and if you ask to speak to Dr.Thompson, he has still yet to return phone call, 2 days later.....unacceptable.\r Spoken to other dentist, and there is by far, much more flexibility, and Dr. Thompson's charges are higher than other places...be sure to shop around. more
