where's the staff?? 11/4/2010

I eat out quite a bit and this was one of my worse experiences, by far. We should've walked out after entering and seeing that most of the tables had not been cleaned off from the previous patrons. There was one waitress and one cook - no bus boy. Our appetizer came out after our meals and I got my soup after we were finished eating. Forget getting your drink refilled or anything of the sort. The waitress was super sweet, but the place was severely understaffed. Given perfect service and no filthy tables, the food was still, at best, average. more

KID CRAZY 5/28/2009

so the definite breeders in Underwood Hills/Collier road have taken over this restaurant. It is ridiculous. The food at Salsa is actually pretty good. But I do not want to go out and have to listen to kids screaming; watch them running around and jumping on the seats. The parents of these brats should don't even care and they are immune to their behavior. This is the way it is all the time and we have simply stopped going. Pros: food is good Cons: too many kids running around more

Bad Service and even WORST Management 3/7/2009

50 MINS TO GET 3 TACOS Pros: SERVICE Cons: FOOD more

Love it! 2/16/2009

LOVE the food and food variety (its technically Cuban, not ""Mexican""). Been eating there since it opened, and they recently expanded to include a full bar on one side. A neighborhood dive with friendly, younger staff. They have cool local art for sale on the walls too. Go try for yourself (and make friends with the Chef- Alex). Yum! more

I'm the bartender 12/29/2008

I'm just letting everyone know that we have a fully stocked bar. Please come by and check us out. I look forward to meeting you. Pros: everything Cons: nothing more

Great food, bad service! 10/2/2007

My boyfriend and I live just down the street from this little spot and LOVE the food, but have never had great service. We always start off with the salsa trio, our favorite is the roasted tomato (we even order it to go sometimes just to have with dinner at home). We are big fans of the tacos, mixing it up with which ones we get each time...and which sides. We really love them all! When we eat in the restaurant the service is usually pretty slow, and unattentive, but the waitresses are young-and its never been too out of hand so we have never complained. When we order to go, 1 out of every 5 times there will be a mistake, but not something we would call back about. Once they charged and sent us an extra order of tacos, once it was a chicken taco instead of beef...but we never really mind because we like them all. This seems to be a great place for families, and there are lots of regulars that the chef talks to and knows on a first name basis. Bottom line, we still tell our friends how much we love the food at this place, but always warn them that service might be a stretch. If you are going to try this place for the first time, I would reccommend going on a weeknight. Pros: Great food, cute atmosphere, comfy Cons: service more

great neighborhood restaurant 7/14/2007

We've been eating regularly at Salsa for over three years and have never been let down. Owner and chef Alex makes everyone feel at home. Creative cuban dishes with tacoes for the kids. Try the Veracruz Fish, Steak Neuenschwander or Tom's BBQ ribs (not on the menu have to ask for this one). New bar with extensive beer and wine selections. Great food and feels like home. Pros: Cuban cuisine / Alex Cons: needs more outdoor seating more

Not as good as I had expected 4/30/2007

This is my first restaurant review. I ordered the roast pork dish. It came with rice and black beans. The pork was ok. However, the food experience was diminished because both the rice and beans were undercooked. Overall, this dish was not very tasty at all. It lacked of the Latin flavors that will make you come back again. The service was lazy. Pros: Ambiance, variety of dishes Cons: Service, food not very tasty more

Salsa Havana best Cuban fushion 12/28/2006

Like spice try the Carribean Chicken or Veracruz fish. A good mix with rice and beans/sweet plantaines. I still need to find their rice recipe, best rice in ATL. Place works great but better when Chef Alex is there (expanding into another restaurant but still works). Beans are mild, order spicy bean slasa for beans, I thinkit is ahie salsa. Lot of kids, go after 8:00 p.m. Great Cuban-Latin fusion...I wish they had a cool bar for late night dates. 3 things to try, Fish tacos, Barbeque tacos and Duck Arsila. Please find rice recipe for me and email me (unickmather@yahoocom), the guy calls it ancient chineese recipe ""Calgon"", what is in the rice? Any suggestions on best BBQ? Pros: Fish, BBQ tacos and roast prok Cons: a bar more

No to chicken tacos, same on beef 8/4/2006

Don't order the chicken tacos, unless you like choking on gristle/chunks of fat and bone!! The first time it happened with several bones in my taco (I could have choked) . I thought ok, bad night/chef. I called and let them know so other customers wouldn't experience same. I just visited again after several months and ordered chicken tacos (forgetting my previous experience). Lo and behold, gristle in the tacos again, made me want to toss my cookies. I just threw them out instead. The beef tacos are very tough and bland almost flavorless. The rice and beans have gone down hill, also very bland. I've liked the BBQ pork tacos ok but after 2 experiences months apart I won't be eating at Salsa ever again. Pros: BBQ pork tacos ok thus far Cons: Chicken tacos are dangerous (choking hazard) . Check for bones and/or gristle prior to eating. more

Amazing Food & Value 3/24/2006

My husband and I have dined at Salsa several times a months since moving down 9 months ago - the food is amazing and extremely reasonably priced. The small interior can get noisy, especially for earlier dinners (between 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.) when many families with small children arrive. But the food is well worth the noise! I have never been disappointed with an entre item yet, and often go back to the simple, yet delicious tilapia fish tacos. The margaritas are a gamble - sometimes they are awesome, and sometimes they are terrible, but overall this place is an incredible find! Pros: Awesome Food, Great $$ Value, Small, Cozy Atmospher Cons: Occassionally Noisy, Drinks are "Iffy" more

excellent food, and fun! 8/22/2005

great food! love the cuban sandwiches! great place to go with friends and enjoy the atmosphere! nothing formal or pretencious here! Sit back and enjoy! more

Succulent food... sucky service 7/14/2005

I frequent Salsa, and I have tried nearly every dish there. I am hooked on the tilapia, and I typically do not like fish. The ambiance is almost as bad as the wait staff. The Sometimes I feel as though I am still in high school; the individual caught looking at someone else somehow looses, which unfortunately -- you will loose in the good service category. However the food makes up for that travesty of a wait staff. Maybe one day the owners will realize how much more successful he could be with a good wait staff, too. Food -- hot, service -- cold. Pros: Food Cons: Service more

Where is the waitress? 6/6/2005

Food is very good, Chef Alex very friendly, Service is HORRIBLE. Don't go there when the owner isn't there. The waitresses are rude and will ignore you. Also, the place seems to attract people with monstrous children. Pros: good food Cons: rude wait staff, overrun with brats more

Fresh, tasty cuban fare 5/8/2005

We eat here almost once a week, and everthing is fresh authentic first rate cuban fare. The wait staff can be cold, but if you looking for a fresh alternative to the usual mex/cuban fare, check this place out. Make sure and order the empanadas which in my opinion are little pieces of mana from heaven. The salsa triology features some of the best salsa youll ever taste and I swear these people must sprinkle majic dust in their rice and beans!!. Go for the taco trilogy on soft corn tortillas and you wont be disapointed. Also has excellent mojitos and nice varitey of cuban beers. The place is ususally filled with familys and even though we dont have kids,( they have traditional kids menu as well) we appreciate a place that doesnt take it self so seriously that kids are no longer welcome. Pros: consistantly great, heavenly empanadas, love that trilogy Cons: waitstaff indifferent more

Extra Tasty 1/5/2005

Salsa has lots of Cuban dishes, but my favorites are the most simple -- tacos made with fresh corn tortillas, bean/cheese enchiladas and cheese quesadillas. The prices are very reasonable, and you'll definitely want to come back for more! NOTE -- They are getting ready to open a second location in Grant Park in the next couple of weeks. Pros: prices, portions more

Great place.... 6/26/2004

My husband and I went to Salsa to celebrate a new job. We had a great time there...the servers were friendly, the atmosphere was inviting, and the food was pretty good. It is not gourmet but it was a nice evening out and it is a great neighborhood restuarant. Pros: good for kids, friendly environment more

great food / great service 6/11/2003

Chef Alex will likely visit your table to make sure everything's delicious, and it will be. I've never had a bad meal at Salsa, and don't expect to. The tilapia, freshly made soft corn tortillas & salsa are delicious every time. Pros: delicious, fresh, inexpensive Cons: unfortunate location more
