I was in Salon Nirvana because I was having issues with my skin. I went in to see Sharon about clearing up my breakouts (some that I have had for as long as I can remember) She recommended I get a facial...well I did and my skin looked brighter right after that. I also got some stuff for my face to use at home and my skin is looking a lot better. i will be going back in a few weeks!! more

Salon Nirvana is one of the most upscale salons in the Mechanicsville area. Whether your appointment is for a haircut, color, massage or pedicure, (they're full service, so the options are endless) you always feel like you're getting the celebrity treatment at a very resonable price. Everyone there is extremely professional and well trained, along with being very friendly. When I made my first appt. I got Christina Smith and she did such an amazing job that I have been a loyal client of her's for 2 years now. She always has a big smile on her face and such a positive attitude. She listens to my ideas for different color and cuts and always gets it perfect. A day a Salon Nirvana is always a pleasure and something I look forward to as I wait for my next appointment. more

I recently went to Salon Nirvana for the very first time. I also am rather new to the Mechanicsville area. I previously went to another salon in this area, but was totally unsatisfied. The salon and stylist were both unprofessional and not customer friendly. I went there a few times and even saw another stylist, but I was unsatisfied with her just as much. One day while shopping at the Food Lion across the street, I noticed Salon Nirvana. I later made an appointment, and went to have my hair cut and colored by stylist, Kristin Salopek. Kristin was very courteous, friendly, and very well experienced in cutting my hair exactly the way I asked. She was very knowledgeable in coloring hair, gave me a great suggestion in which color I should choose, and the results were amazing. I had many great compliments on my hair from friends and family members. I will never go see anyone else as Kristin really made my hair look 100% better. I also love how the salon is very sleek, modern, and upscale. I really loved the experience in the shampoo super relaxing massaging chair. Also, their prices are very reasonable for all the great service! more

In December I purchased a gift card for my wife to enjoy a package deal at Salon Nirvana as a Christmas present. It was slightly more expensive than I expected to pay in Mechanicsville but being close to home I felt the convenience was worth the cost. Working in the school system she wanted to wait until the summer to utilize their service. She did not see an expiration date on the gift card but wanting to verify called and was told by the front desk staff that the card would not expire. This being the case she scheduled an appointment for August, after the last family vacation, but when she arrived for her appointment she was informed that the gift card had expired as there is a 6 month limit! Really, a 6 month expiration date on a gift card from a salon, really. And you can't accommodate a customer missing the mark by a few months or honor what was already stated by your front desk staff? They don't offer the amenities that a luxury spa would offer and yet they expect to be able to charge for and treat their customers in the same manner as a luxury resort. I like to give my business locally but only if I am going to be treated as a person, not a commodity. more

I recently moved to Mechanicsville and drove past Salon Nirvana several times. I figured since it was so convenient I would give it a try. What a pleasant surprise!! I got a haircut with Natalie, and she did a great job! I used to live in downtown Richmond and got my hair cut at a much more expensive salon in The Fan. I have to say, the cut I got at Salon Nirvana turned out better than my previous cuts and was about $15 cheaper. I knew exactly what I wanted when I went in there, and Natalie delivered. She listened to me and made it perfect. I will definitely be back regularly to keep my look fresh! Pros: friendly, bright and airy - pleasant atmosphere, listen Cons: none more

Was in the salon to have my hair colored with highlights and cut with Kristin. She is so energetic and really understood exactly what I wanted. Her personality was uplifting and made my experience there fun. I would recommend her to anyone who needs to have their hair done. Her knowledge of products was really impressive. She really knew her stuff. When I got ready to leave I was offered to have my make up refreshed and she did a fantastic job. I left there feeling really good. I thought the prices were fair and will definitely recommend her to my other friends. I will be back in 6 weeks. Pros: Great customer service and beautiful salon environment Cons: none more

This salon is like a hidden treasure! I heard about it through a friend and gave it a try. The first great thing about it was the ample parking space-anyone who lives in downtown Richmond or the Fan can appreciate that! When I walked in the place was beautifully decorated and I was greeted by a smiling receptionist who immediately greeted me and asked about what I wanted. I hadn't made an appointment but luckily one stylist was able to help me right away. I got highlights and a hair cut and was EXTREMELY happy with both. While I was getting my hair blown dry I also learned that the salon has a spa on the other side of the building complete with nail services, facials, massages, and even a tanning bed! It is literally a one stop shop for everything a girl can need to look and feel great. I would definitely recommend it to any of my girlfriends and I will be returning for a mani, pedi VERY soon! This spa is sheer bliss when it comes to relaxation, personal attention and great customer service. When I called to make my appt. the receptionist was extremely nice and accommodating. I experienced a day at the spa as a gift from my husband. Best gift ever...I had a one hour facial which was devine and a pedicure that was fantastic. I loved the fact that the pedicure was private and all of the conversation was between the esthetician and myself, she played soft music and allowed the experience to be all about me. I then was able to get my hair done with Karen who took her time talking with me about what I wanted and she also made some suggestions on what she thought might work well with my hair type. After one of the best haircut and styles I have ever had I was offered to have my make-up done by Kristin. What a difference! I walked out of there looking totally different then when I went in, totally rejuvenated and making me want more. The salon is absolutely beautiful and the staff was extremely pleasant. The prices were fair for a spa but have to say that when I left I felt like a million bucks! more

Without an appointment, I was pleasantly surprised to get a partial highlight without having to come back and/or wait very long. My stylist was wonderful and sweet and did a great job! I am disappointed, however, the prices and "extra" services are not stated until after you've checked out. Imagine my surprise when I went to pay and owed $157.00 (before tip!). While I was waiting, I looked over the Salon Price Guide so I was prepared for about how much I would be paying. My stylist met me and looked at my hair and said I only needed a partial highlight. When I checked out, however, I discovered that not only did my stylist do a partial highlight but did low lights, too. This was not discussed with me as being an extra charge or option. Next, when my hair was being rinsed, my stylist stated, "I'm going to give you a conditioning treatment because your ends are dry." It wasn't offered as an option nor was I told there would be an additional charge for this. Last, haircuts start at $26.00 but I didn't know my stylist could (and did) charge more for haircuts. I think this salon needs to rethink how they inform their customers so they are not picking their eyeballs off the counter when they get the final bill! For example, a stylist could state, "We're going to do partial highlights along with low lights. There is an extra charge for this service and it costs X amount." Or, "I'd like to do a conditioning treatment but please know if you want me to continue with this, it will cost X amount." Or have a little sign that states by their station, "I'm a senior stylist and my haircut rates are X amount." We're watching pennies these days but even when times were good, I NEVER paid these prices even at the fancy, downtown salons! I've been a long time customer of this salon and must say that the new place is fantastic. As the place was in the original location, they added more space and services that make it easy for me to get all of my needs handeled at one time. The personnal attention and the ability to have just a hair trim or a full make over make me look forward to going each time. I recommend anyone that is in the area or looking for a real appealing salon to try with talented and experienced stylists and technicians, that you take the time to check this place out. I especially like the massaging chairs you sit in while your hair is being washed, something you get each time at no extra cost. My review is based on their business side. I am sure their services are fine. I went in to setup a time for my mother and wife to be spoiled a little on Valentine's day. My first question was do you have availability. the answer was yes. Anyway 30 minutes and 2 gift cards later I go to schedule the time and I am told there is no availability for Valentines day. I immediately ask for a refund. I then find out the next day that it takes 2-3 business days to get the refund credited to your account. That is B.S. I waiting for a couple of things to bounce so I can take them the NSF charges to them. They really are screwed up on the business side.
