Finding this salon was one of my best discoveries. I have thick, curly hair and Andrea is an expert at cutting for my hair type. In the past, when I left a salon, I always went home and washed my hair because I didn't like the way it was styled. When I leave Femia, I feel like a million bucks and like my hair has never looked better. Andrea also helped me when I was growing my hair from short to long. She gave me cuts for those in between stages that were stylish and fun. She always takes the time to talk and really understand what I want, and I get exactly the cut I am looking for. Once, I walked in with a copy of Vogue and said, ""I want my hair to look like the movie star on the cover."" Andrea pulled it off! The salon is super clean and the decor is really pretty. Great service and helpful advice 2/18/2009

I am new to the area and was worried about going to a new salon. When I finally broke down and decided to test my luck, my hair was a mess. Luckily, Daniella cut my hair. She gave me helpful suggestions about what would look best on me. Not only did she give me a beautiful haircut, she also took the time to style it and teach me how to get the same results at home. The Perfect Mix 3/5/2008

Salon Femia in Davis Square has the perfect mix of what a hair salon should offer. The location is convenient, parking is available just across the street, the premises are spotlessly clean and attractive, and the two sisters who own the salon are wonderful. Both Andrea and Ornella, who own Salon Femia, get to know their clients and work with them not just as customers but as individuals with their own sense of style and their own ideas. Every visit to Salon Femia is an enjoyable experience and I come out feeling relaxed and having a look that is right for me at a reasonable cost. I strongly recommend Salon Femia and am sure when you go there you will agree also. more

Always 100% Satisfied 2/17/2008

I've been going to Salon Femia for 6+ years and always leave completely in love with my cut and/or color. I always walk out of the salon feeling like a million bucks and yet the salon is very affordable. Ornella cut and colored my hair several years ago prior to my wedding and I would not have trusted anyone else to do it. Although I could easily have gone to Andrea, Daniella or Jen -- and have over the years. They all cut and color hair impeccably. I've recommended Salon Femia to numerous friends and would continue to do. It's a gem in Somerville! I even moved out of the area but the way that I feel after a haircut by Ornella makes the extra time worth it! If you're looking to try someplace new definitely go to Salon Femia. more

Great hair and waxing! 2/13/2008

Ornella at Salon Femia has been cutting and coloring my hair for 4 years and I would never go anywhere else. The salon space is great, the Aveda products top notch and the service is what you would expect from a first rate salon. I also go to Linda for eyebrow waxing and she is terrific. The prices are much more reasonable then you would pay in downtown Boston. Forget Newbury Street salons- the best one is in Davis Square! more

Great Somerville Salon 2/10/2008

I was nervous to try a new place after moving to the Davis Square area a few months ago. I decided to give Salon Femia a chance (as it was on my walk home from the T) and I couldn't be more thrilled! I had an appointment with Andrea and she was amazing! She took my ideas and made them 100 times better.I left looking and feeling great about myself, and I have been getting super comments from all of my friends ever since. Andrea really knows what she is doing and what looks good for each individual...I highly recommend her! more

Greatest Hair Salon Around! 2/1/2008

I've been going to Salon Femia and getting my hair cut by Daniella for about 1 year. I used to think all haircuts were the same, and wasn't too picky about who did my trim. When Daniella cut my hair, it looked incredible, and I've never thought about going anywhere else since. She's encouraged me to update my style and branch out some, all while making sure that I'm really happy with the outcome when I walk out the door. The salon is easy to get to, and park at in Davis square, and there is a cozy feel once inside. I've had a really great experience with Salon Femia and would recommend it to anyone! more

Ten years of gorgeous hair! 1/9/2008

I've been getting my hair cut at Salon Femia for ten years now and Ornella never fails to do a beautiful job - she comes up with the hippest stuff. We've been through so many styles from short to ultra long and now back to cropped. She's able to translate my vague ""I want it really cropped at the back but long at the front and messy"" into a cool do. She knows hair types really well so if you go in with a picture of a style that just isn't going to work, or that is going to take major upkeep, she'll tell you. \r \r There aren't many hairdressers I'd trust to cut off two feet of hair (!) but I had no qualms asking Ornella to do it. Best thing I ever did. She's fab. \r \r Pros: They know their stuff more

Excellent hair salon in Davis Square!! 8/17/2007

I have been going here for more than 3 years and get my hair done by Ornella. She is VERY good and I watch her do other people's hair when I am there, and she really knows her stuff with all kinds of styles and types of hair. She always makes me look like a movie star. She gives advice and does everything to make sure her customer leaves the store very satisfied. They are very reasonably priced and the new premises are very comfortable and attractive. I highly recommend them to anyone and I think they should be considered for ""Best of Boston"". Pros: Excellent service/ reasonable prices Cons: Can't always get an appointment when I need one. They are busy. more

Best Haircut in Boston! 8/16/2007

I have been going to Salon Femia for 8 years and would never let anyone else touch my hair! I have been stopped on the street in Boston and other cites and people have requested the name of the salon because of my cut. They are always up on the latest styles and would never give you a requested cut if they did not think it would be a good look. Now that is service! \r \r The salon is cute, hip and friendly- great atmosphere. It's totally worth the trip even if you don't live in Davis Sq. It's right across from the T. more

Lots of Fun 8/9/2007

I really enjoy going to Salon Femia for my regular cut and colour. It's always hard to find a great salon in a new town, let alone a new country. The women here are so much fun and really knowledgeable. They give great advice about what will work for you and will steer you away gently from what won't. It's been alot of fun to build up a relationship with my stylist and I've recommended them to a number of friends who have all looked much better for having spent some time at Salon Femia Pros: Great Service, Near the T, reasonable prices more

Salon Femia, Davis square 8/5/2007

I have been going to Salon Femia for years now. They broke the vicious cycle of bad to worse haircuts for me. Owned by 3 sisters, their service is pretty prompt and the charges for a good haircut is just 30$ which is very reasonable. Ornella, one of the sisters, is absolutely awesome! she just knows how to cut thick curly hair which is what I have. She would suggest a right haircut for you if you let her, without being overbearing!\r There is good music, friendly atmosphere, plenty of conversations to join in if you are in the mood for, and they are not too chatty if you are the ""leave me alone-just give me a good haircut"" types. Great electrology service 5/8/2007

Maryann Guidi does a great job removing unwanted hair. She uses thermolysis (shortwave) electrology which is fairly fast. The prices are reasonable and she was able to put me at ease, even while working on sensitive areas like bikini and underarms. She's very upfront about fees, friendly and efficient.\r \r I've had electrology done in California, Switzerland and here for 2+ years so I'm pretty picky! Maryann is great. The worse haircut in my life. 10/27/2005

I am completely dissatisfied. I had the owner- who ignore me the entire time I was there. Took three and a half inches off- when i requested a trim. Was talking on the phone while she was cutting my hair. Gave me the flattist hair cut ever. It will take a half a year to get my hair back to something I can live with. She completely ruined my look. I have never been upset about a hair cut before, but I left the salon in tears. Rude, selfish, rushed. not professional. more

Very bad communication -- when I said I wasn't happy with the length, the stylist was so obviously annoyed (including telling me I had ""a lot of hair"") that I ended up leaving with a cut much longer than what I'd asked for. more
