I had been going to this salon for a couple of years with the same stylist, when, on the day of my 5pm appointment, I had to cancel and reschedule because I awoke with a terrible cold-the kind that keeps you in bed. I called at 8am, knowing I wouldn't be better by 5:00, and to give enough time for my stylist to book another appointment. At 5:30 I get a phone call from my stylist confirming that I wouldn't be coming in, and noticing that I had previously cancelled an appointment (in the two years I had been there), because of a sick child. She then went on to ask me, "Are you going to make the next appointment?", like I was 5 years old or something. I seriously felt like I was being interrogated. After I hung up I felt so upset that a hairstylist would treat one of her clients (who tipped her 25% many times) that way. I called and spoke with a gentleman at the front desk and he told me that they do have a 24 hour cancellation policy but that this particular stylist had a habit of being harsh like that. Needless to say I cancelled my rescheduled appointment with her, and made an appointment with another stylist there--he was awful, my hair looked the same as when I walked in that day. I also received a postcard "apology" from the mean stylist. It was a joke. It said. "I'm sorry if I upset you......blah,blah,blah.....my apology is sincere". Um, WHAT apology?? When you say I'm sorry IF, it basically erases the I'm sorry that precedes it. If she would have said "I'm sorry FOR upsetting you", I probably would have given her another chance. So, if you are thinking about going to this salon, make sure you check out their cancellation policy: (Please keep in mind that Salon Aura requires 24 hours-notice if an appointment must be cancelled. A Credit card deposit may be required for services and treatments valued over the sum of $100.00). For what it's worth, there are many, many top-notch salons in the area. I would recommend Heads of Time, and ask to be seen by a senior stylist. They also have a great kids area there. Your kids can get their haircut while eating popcorn and suckers, and watching TV. As a parent, you can get your hair cut in the kids' area while they play (or a stylist will watch your kids in the kiddie are while you get your haircut in the regular salon)-it's a great, family-friendly place. They have great kids' shampoo and styling products too, as well as manicures and kids' parties.
Pros: Aveda products, nice salon
Cons: RIDICULOUS cancellation policy, snooty haistylists
