So a lot of the reviews seem to be 7/28/2013

So a lot of the reviews seem to be mixed about this place on Yelp, and I have to say I'm definitely on the positive side. Went in on a Sunday night at 9:00PM and we were immediately acknowledged as we walked in the door, that's always a plus! After being seated the hostess promptly took our drink order, and within 3 minutes of receiving drinks our server greeted us. Not knowing much about Indian Food, my party really had no idea what to order. Our server Halal (I think that was his name) was really great and helped us with what was what. First off, the Garlic Naan bread was AMAZING!!!! OMG!!! What a fantastic surprise! I ordered the medium spicy chicken korma which was sooooo flavorful I absolutely loved it! My wife got the hot chicken volcano which was ON FIRE HOT!!! I think she even ordered it a little bit more on the medium side, but that sucker is a HOT dish!! She loved it though because she loves Hot dishes. Overall we were very happy and had an incredibly flavorful meal. Everyone has different experiences with what they believe is good and bad, and our experience was very good! Our server Halal was Great too and we are definitely going back! I highly recommend it! more

Been eating there since the 70's LOVE the food!! 10/12/2009

I've eating at Salomi since 1979. I moved over the hill and had not eaten there for years. I moved back to the valley and expected it to be not as good, but oh how wrong I was. I love this place so much and the staff takes great care of us whether we take out or eat there. The sauces are traditional and the food is the best in LA. I even sent my Indian friends there and they told me it was outstanding. Im sorry, but these other reviews dont know traditional indian and bangaledesh cuisine. It is a bit spicier, but I like that! Pros: Best indian food outside of London more

Casual Indian, great NoHo location, yummy food 5/4/2008

We go to Salomi at least 3 times a month and love the food. The service can be great or horrible, depends on the day. Sometimes it's unbelievably slow, sometimes the food is at your table minutes after you have ordered. It's kind of a crapshoot. We tend to call for delivery a lot or even call our order in before we come sit down if we are in a hurry. Pros: good food, good NoHo location, service sometimes Cons: service sometimes, parking more

Spicy curries in a so-so setting 11/13/2006

Salomi has a bit of an identity crisis. Its half-hearted attempts at fine dining decor has left it with a restaurant that looks like it hasn't been dusted or remodeled since the day it opened. The food, while spicy, lacks the freshness and attention to culinary detail that would elevate their dishes to 'destination dining' level -- a place that's worth a drive or a reservation. When we arrived, the place was practically empty, despite all the glowing reviews in the magazine and newspaper clippings near the door. As Indian food goes, it was decent, but not outstanding, especially considering that everything was on the pricier side on the Indian food continuum. Salomi could do well to make a commitment to either being 1) a classy restaurant with fresh, innovative Indian cuisine or 2) being a cheap, casual and tasty place for Indian food. By failing to either impress me as a place for a dining out bargain nor as a special destination for dinner, it languishes in that sad middle ground of being slightly overpriced and unimpressive. Pros: Spicy curries, friendly service, no wait for a table Cons: Dusty and dark decor, slightly overpriced more

Too expensive for ok food 5/29/2006

The portions were too small for such high prices. The quality of the food was ok, nothing spectacular. The ambience was good and the service was really good. However, I would not go back. I felt I payed too much money for the portion and quality of what I got. more

So delicious, I crave this food. 2/6/2006

I have never been a big fan of Indian food, and reluctantly stumbled on this place. The samosas are good, and we ordered a shrimp appetizer that comes on a round tortilla-like bread that was wonderful. The plain and garlic naan come hot to your table and are a perfect accompaniment to the chicken tikka masala and lamb vindaloo. Be careful though, the vindaloo is hot. My step-son was so mad that we decided to go to this place, and ended up coming out saying how much he LOVED the food. Honestly, the parking is tight, and the ambience lacking, but the food is dead on. Pros: Great food, Friendly service, Reasonable pricing Cons: Hard to find parking, A little dark more

The Best ever 5/25/2005

I could not believe that in United States you will get such a great looking, Delicious Indian food serving by outstanding employees with smile and friendly manner. We are very critical of our restaurant but we could not find anything to be critical with Salomi. Just don't try their signature hot curry Volcano (killer) and if you are hot lover then you are hooked with this. For me it was too much and I dared to try after several warning about the extenth of hot by the server Layek. Pros: Rear parking, Very crowded, Well-dress server more

Fabulous service, great food 5/22/2005

The servers here are so accomodating and warm; they make great menu recommendations such as the chicken vindaloo (make sure you specify how hot), the aloo mater and the shrimp marsala. Great naan and nice wine selection, too. more

Solid food, great service 10/7/2002

There aren't a lot of Indian options in the NoHo area, but this is a solid choice and you don't have to feel like you're settling. The service is very friendly, and enhances the experience. The samosas are tasty and large. The chicken vindaloo is seriously spicy so be careful what level you ask for. Everything I've tried has been good: the aloo mateer, the shrimp curry, the garlic and plain naans, mater paneer. I haven't had a misstep so far. more
