As gas prices soar I was looking for discounts. Safeway has signs everywhere that state with a $50.00 purchase you get $.20 gas discount. Imagine my surprise after spending $111.04 on groceries the gas pump said only a $.03 discount. I then went to the clerk at the station who sits is a warm room and watched him as he looked over my receipt, wanted my telephone number, scratched his head, then scratched it again all the while I am standing in the cold and wind to the point my hands were freezing only to be told my purchases didn't count because I bought alcohol. Only $25.98 was the forbidden fruit leaving still a substantial balance that still qualified for the .20, hey I would have been happy at .10 but no just the .03. I then went to the manager, with no better results he gave me $2.00 ( because once the computer screws you no one locally can supposedly fix) it and he said it would cover it, well folks you do the math, at another station I got 12.80 gallons. Obviously the main concern is getting cheap gas and at safeway I didn't get that, what I got was condesending attitude which screams we don't want your business, and as far as I am concerned there are plenty of stores and plenty of REAL Discounts not imaginary ones like this Safeway. BUYER BEWARE - CHECK ALL RECEIPTS FROM SAFEWAY!
