SWANTON STREET DINER

I read the reviews for this place and thought, ""Wow sounds like a great place for breakfast"". So my husband and I went to try it out. I got pancake with a side of bacon and my husband got the two eggs and hash brown breakfast with a side of sausage for $13. The only positive thing I can say is that we got prompt seating and the portion is just right but to be totally honest, I could have made a better breakast at home. The pancake was chewy and batter-tasting (you can taste the rawness). The bacon was burnt and very cripsy, it tasted more like bacon bits. The toast was also burnt black. The sausage was served cold and like the rest of the food, tasteless and very blan. I would not recommend this place for breakfast to anyone. Pros: Prompt seating Cons: Bad service, blan food more

My wife and I have been going to the Swanton St. Diner for almost two years and have never been disappointed with the food. They feature a very diverse menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner that includes something for just about every taste. They usually have a few daily specials that are always worth trying. We have found the seafood to always be fresh and well prepared. You can't go wrong with the grilled salmon and I recently tried the broiled scrod which was excellent too. The sides dishes include different styles of potatos and the vegtables are always fresh and include what is in season. One dish that we have had many times is the seafood risotto. It is loaded with chunks of fresh lobster, calamari, scallops and shrimp along with chopped tomatos and basil. The burgers and sandwichs are also very very good. We haven't tried it for breakfast, not being very big breakfast people but the place always seems to be crowded, especially on weekend mornings. Give this place a try. What used to be a grimy little breakfast place has done a 180. Gone are the mis-matched chairs and runny eggs. Gone are the grime that seemed to be etched into the brown ceiling tiles. Here to stay is the NEW Swanton Street Diner! Swanky atmosphere, sweet little bar, and a menu with not only a large selection but a GOOD selection make this a place you WANT to visit. This place used to be a little local place to get cheap breakfast. The food was never very good, and it didn't deserve to be called a ""diner"". Although it's no more a diner now than it was before, it's turned into a nice cozy place for dinner, and is now on par with what you'd expect from a restaurant in Winchester. I really enjoyed my dining experience here at the swanton street diner. Our server, a young gentleman, was not only helpful, but very well spoken about the menu and the food itself. He not only spoke of the flavors the food gives off but also what wines worked with each entree my friend and i ordered. Very good experience overall. Great little place with a nice atmosphere. more
