It was cooked perfectly along with the duck dish, sliders, bbq chix and other tapas.\r It immediatley reminded me Soho New York! A good feeling. What a treat after an Art Basel walk on a gorgeous cool day! more

Bad experience. A large group of friends went there after work for a friends happy hour and we could barely get the bartenders attention. We walked around the bar until a waiter helped us out. The bartender that finally took out order gave us attitude; as if we were disturbing him for doing his job. Food is good but potions are small and overpriced. I would not go back there. more

I USED to love this place before the HORRIBLE experience I had for happy hour/dinner last week!!! I am not one to complain at a restaurant, because I've been a server, and I've never asked to speak to a manager, sent back food, or complained, but this was just beyond a bad experience and I couldn't even believe this stuff was happening to me.\r \r We decided to go to Sugarcane for a fun and yummy birthday happy hour and ended up fighting with the managers and being treated like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman! \r From the beginning, the 2 hostesses, who were dressed like they should be standing on a street corner instead of a hostess booth, were extremely rude and proceeded to speak about my friend and I in Spanish in front of us thinking that we wouldn't understand what they were saying. Ummm helloooo this is Miami, NOT North Dakota!!! There were 5 of us at the time but we told them that we were expecting 2 or 3 more people. They told us that they didn't have any tables inside, when all of the inside tables were completely empty. After going back and forth, in Spanish, for a couple of minutes saying things like, "who do these girls think they are anyways," they accommodated us at one of the booth/tables.\r Once we were sitting down, we had the pleasure of being waited on by the most passive aggressive, rude server in the world, Sergio. Before he even greeted us, the hostesses pulled him aside, pointed in our direction and told him something about us, because from his initial hello, he was beyond rude! He told my sister that he didn't take her order because, "why would he write down her order anyways when no one else knew what they wanted." When the rest of our friends arrived, we squeezed everyone but one person into the booth, so I asked Sergio if he had one extra chair and he said, "No, we don't." Seriously?! There were tables around us that were empty and no one waiting to be seated! I think if you're working on commission for a tip, the least you could do is accommodate your customers so they can at least sit down and eat!! We ordered our food and the guys that come around and clean would take away our plates before we were even done eating and without asking if they could take them. I had a plate that still had 4 sushi rolls on it that I was going to eat, but it was taken away without my consent! After our table was cleared, Sergio brought us dessert menus, and after literally a minute of having them on the table and before we could all even read them, he came by and took them and said, "are you guys going to order anything or not, because I need the menus back if you aren't because we don't have enough." They don't have enough menus??? seriously??? They're made out of paper!!!! Apparently they don't have anything at this restaurant!! No chairs, no menus, no service!!\r The final straw was when we were done eating and we were sitting there finishing our drinks and the manager came up to us and told us that they needed our table, so we had to stand up and finish our drinks by the bar. That was it for me, I couldn't believe we were being kicked out of our table! I proceeded to tell the manager about our horrible experience from the beginning and he defended the waiter and hostesses the entire time, he didn't even care that we, the customers, had a horrible experience. My sister requested to please remove the gratuity from the bill because she was very unsatisfied with the service and the manager told us that he couldn't do that because the computer automatically does that and that there was nothing he could do and brought us our $340 bill. Yup, $340!!! They treated us like all we did was sit there and drink free water the entire time!! I guess the manager realized after seeing the bill that we had, in fact, ordered food and drinks and were being treated unfairly, so he came back and apologized a million times for his and his staff's behavior, but it was a day late and a dollar short! He removed 50 something dollars worth of drinks from the bill to compensate for the tip that he couldn't remove, but again, a day late and a dollar short!! I have never been treated that badly and felt that way before in my life. I will NEVER EVER go back to this place again, or recommend it to anyone. The staff is the rudest I've ever experience in my life.\r \r I recommend that you go somewhere else, because at the end of the day the drinks are OK, but the food is overpriced for what it is and the staff is the worst in Miami. It's not worth risking being treated badly or paying that amount of money on a drink and a spoonful of ceviche. more

Great ambiance hipster crowd. That's were it ends. Go for drinks - eat elsewhere. more

The bar service was good though food service was a little slow. The bartender was thoughtful as we talked about cocktails on the list. I had a criticism of one of the signatures I tried. The bartender agreed, and made one of his own off the cuff. Lots of depth and flavor. I like that sort of ability in my bartender.\r \r The sweetbreads were quite tasty too.\r \r This was my second time back to Sugarcane, and I will go back. more

Three of us went there for dinner @6:30 prior to catching a flight out. Promptly seated, quickly greeted by a friendly waiter who gave us a good overview of food and drink for our first time there. We ordered a couple beers, about 10 plates including the poki tuna(sp?). Quick delivery of the drinks was immediately followed by the rapid succession of dishes. Each selection was very good and uniquely presented. Haven't had Brussels sprouts in years, but ate more than my share since they were so good. Overall experience was great. Only two drawbacks; the dishes came out so quickly that we felt like they were stacking up on us. Could be that they were sensitive to our need to eat and run for our flight; we'll come back to try a more leisurely sitting. Other thing is the inside/outside bar looks cool, but with open doors we found that we were sharing our meal with pesky flies. Either need to keep doors closed or stronger air curtain. It was good; we certainly look forward to goin back again. more

Tapas were delicious, but don't be deceived into thinking this place is inexpensive. The portions are small to very small and at $6 to $12 per dish, it adds up quickly. My wife is a very light eater and our lunch came out to $60 plus tip with only one soft drink. If we had ordered a couple of Mojitos, we could've spent $90 for lunch with an 18%-20% tip. \r \r The bacon wrapped dates are out of this world. but you get three pieces (read three to five bites total) for $11. Overall, we tasted four different tapas and all the food was very tasty. The dessert menu could be more interesting with the exception of Torrejas, which I highly recommend. I've read other comments about poor service, but we had a very nice waiter who helped us out with the menu items on this first visit. So, if you feel like splurging a bit for some very good food, go for it. If you are really hungry and want to keep your lunch under $30 per person, go elsewhere. more

...\r \r I was there yesterday afternoon - Saturday around 4pm. I love the location and the ambiance is great. The drinks were good but the food was nothing to write home about; for the price, I'd say the food was below average. \r \r What can I say about the service? Well, mommy always told me, "If you can't say something nice, then don't say anything at all." When did I ever listen to mommy? I just don't like waiting 20 minutes for drinks and asking about a dish, choosing another and getting both - then billed for both. Do I really have to beg for the bill? Seriously, you can keep it!! $130 for 2 people, 6 drinks, 3 tapas. Not too bad... but for lunch?\r \r I'd go back for the drinks and try sitting at the bar, but I'm not sure I'd go there for dinner. more

This place is a rip off... Make sure you eat before going there. The food is not that great. This was my second and last time there. more

The place is very tropical colonial, cozy and welcoming. THE DATES are a must! We also had Brussells Sprouts, Lobster Sugarcane roll that was luscious, shrimp, Skirt steak, and outstanding short ribs. Desserts could have been more interesting. The service was just ok, but the food made up for it! more

Overall I like the place, however, there's one BIG problem. My friend and I both ordered beer, right after sitting down. It was Sunday evening and the place was half-empty. It took 20 MINUTES for our beer to arrive. The waitress apologized, telling us the the bar was always backed up, due to the fact that their "signature cocktails" took a long time to make and kept the bartenders very busy. We ordered beer. Imagine how long we would have waited on a Saturday night. Mr. Owner, are you listening, hire another bartender. You're losing sales and alienating your customers.\r \r The wait staff, although willing to please, seemed really inexperienced , poorly trained and completely without supervision on the floor. The place is like a boat with no Captain on deck.\r \r Food was very good, but not great. We ordered a broad sample of smaller plates.\r \r I liked the ambiance, music and the overall vibe. more

This place is weak for the majority of the meal.... one app was excellent....alas, it couldn't carry the entire feeding ... seems some enjoy being with a "new love" regardless how ordinary ... they will awaken, let's give them time. more

Don't go for drinks. The bar staff is lost and seem unorganized and will take forever for a simple beer or cocktail. Food is ok and place is currently popular more

Great new spot from owners of SushiSamba. \r \r The place is beautiful, airy, big fans, very tropical. Decor is lovely, random chairs, tile, wood floors, very rustic and homey. \r \r Sugarcane has 3 separate kitchens scattered through out: \r * A Raw Bar\r * Japanese Grill\r * Hot Kitchen\r \r Think tapas with an exotic/asian flare - not your typical spanish tapas. If you've been to Señora Martinez, you know what to expect except this was way more affordable and better tasting in every way. We tried 10 dishes and they came fast and prompt. Favorites were: \r * Florida Tomatoes w/ burrata cheese, strawberries and balsamic\r * Golden Beets salad\r * Goat Cheese Croquettes w/ marmalade\r * The Sugarcane Lobster roll w/ peanut soy\r * Madagascar Shrimp w/ sweet chili\r * Yellowtail Crudos w/ grapefruit and avocado\r \r Last but not least, the Torrejas dessert which was soaked in custard for 24 hours and baked w/ fiji apples and served w/ vanilla bean ice cream.\r \r Staff was wonderfully flashing smiles left and right. Our waiter came thru with every suggestion. Can't wait to come back for Happy Hour and get a pitcher of the red sangria.\r \r PS I added some pics so make sure to scope them out. more
