Roxborough 4/15/2006

This is a place you should take your friends from out of town. They will understand why it is so special to be in Colorado, and they will have some fantastic photos to take home. Roxborough's red rocks jutting into the blue Colorado sky form one of the most beautiful landscapes in the world. The rock formations at this park are over a billion years old -- yes, a billion (with a B). Mountain lions, bear, and elk roam free. For we humans, there are hiking trails and helpful rangers. This is one of the most scenic places in the West. more

Great Hiking for all levels 1/31/2006

Okay, couch potatoes, it's time to start working on that New Year's Resolution to get in shape. You don't have to hike a 14-er. Just get out and MOVE. A great place to start is in our own backyard--the trails at Roxborough State Park. A good one to start with is the Fountain Trail. It's gentle, flat and relatively short--I zipped through it in an hour. (Great for kids.) The red rock formations are gorgeous!! Bring your camera. I hike it often and frequently can get within 10 feet or so of deer--they are used to people and they pretty much ignore us! Splendid to behold. Their visitor center is staffed with interesting and knowledgeable staff who are eager to share. And their restrooms are CLEAN!!! Other trails there are also magnificent--get a trail map at the Visitor Center and have a blast. Beware, though, in late winter, these trails are slushy--so wear good hiking boots. more
