I called Yes! Plumbing first. He was very professional, wore booties, checked other toilets, and got idea of plumbing layout. But he wanted $679.07 to clear my bathtub drain! That included a container of Biosmart to use after which they sell separately for $104.20 or $83.35 if you buy that day. So I just paid the $79 service call fee.
So I called Roto-Rooter. I called number in my Yellow Pages, though it was different than one on website. There are closer stores but plumber from Thornton store came to Matteson. He came later than the two-hour window, though he did call twice.
His price was $330. I paid $290 total because of $40 senior citizen discount, which was cheaper than using $30 Yellow Pages coupon.
He vacuumed the drain to get any solid objects, then rodded it with some difficulty. The banging noise was scary but we couldn't see any leaks in the ceiling below. That was a relief because he had me sign a form holding them harmless for any pipe damage.
He did not wear booties; at least it was a nice day. There was no floor cover, so his rod dripped some water on our floor. I wouldn't have cared for that if our garbage can didn't have a hole in the bottom that let the water drain.
I should have done more online research because I just found the Scottish Plumber who cleans drains for $99 plus tax. They also offer one free cleaning over the next year, while Roto-Rooter offers free service over the next six months.
