Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Drain Service

On Mother's Day my husband went down to the basement to find water on the floor. Within an hour Joe from Roto-Rooter was there. The Sewer was clogged with tree roots which was causing the backup. He worked on it until it was all clear. Joe was great. He explained everything that he was doing and then told us the bad news of what our next step should be. The house is over 56 years old and has clay pipes. At each of the joints in the pipe, tree roots can push through there. Our large maple trees in the front yard are beautiful, but the roots were causing problems. The next step is to have a camera guy come out to do a visual inspection to see how much damage had been done by roots. Not a great way to spend Mother's Day, but Joe was so kind and thorough, which made the bad news easier to take. more

I called Yes! Plumbing first. He was very professional, wore booties, checked other toilets, and got idea of plumbing layout. But he wanted $679.07 to clear my bathtub drain! That included a container of Biosmart to use after which they sell separately for $104.20 or $83.35 if you buy that day. So I just paid the $79 service call fee. So I called Roto-Rooter. I called number in my Yellow Pages, though it was different than one on website. There are closer stores but plumber from Thornton store came to Matteson. He came later than the two-hour window, though he did call twice. His price was $330. I paid $290 total because of $40 senior citizen discount, which was cheaper than using $30 Yellow Pages coupon. He vacuumed the drain to get any solid objects, then rodded it with some difficulty. The banging noise was scary but we couldn't see any leaks in the ceiling below. That was a relief because he had me sign a form holding them harmless for any pipe damage. He did not wear booties; at least it was a nice day. There was no floor cover, so his rod dripped some water on our floor. I wouldn't have cared for that if our garbage can didn't have a hole in the bottom that let the water drain. I should have done more online research because I just found the Scottish Plumber who cleans drains for $99 plus tax. They also offer one free cleaning over the next year, while Roto-Rooter offers free service over the next six months. more

Roto-Rooter has been my only service since I lived in my home 59 years. All I have to do is make a call and they are johnny on the spot within an hour. The servicemen are always polite, neatly clothed for their job no matter how muddy outside it is whether rain or snow or good weather. Their knowledge of correcting problems is excellent. I do not have a computer so I asked my granddaughter to write this out for me. Pros: Excellent service Cons: None more
