Incredible seafood at Rosie's Clam Shack 5/2/2012

We went to Rosie's Clam Shack the other night after not going for awhile. Everything was fantastic! It looked like a completely different restaurant. Very clean, very friendly. Possibly the best whole belly clams I've ever had! They have new management, and it shows. I will be making this a new regular dinner spot! more

Pass on Rosies 5/28/2011

Just came back from Rosies. I was hoping for a great fish dinner but I was so disappointed. First, half the items are marked ""market price"" so you have to keep asking what the cost will be. My waitress hadn't a clue and had to keep checking. She didn't even know the cost of the corona I ordered. My salad was watery and must have been just washed and included a very small amout of blue cheese dressing. I ordered the clam chowder which was too salty and thick as soup. I couldn't eat it. The stuffed grouper was dried out and either overcooked or bad fish. The dish also had a bad aftertaste. I ate a few bites and left it. Be aware that if you want to use a credit card, you must spend at least $15.00, another bummer. I ws born in New Hampshire and worked at a lobster restaurant throughout college so I am picky about fish and lobster. I did get credit for my chowder but when asked how things were, I gave a negative reply. Got no reaction, just the bill. Take a pass on Rosies, you can do much better! more

the worst! unfresh 11/22/2010

I took my 70 yr old father here for lunch to get some good NE seafood. We both ended up getting severly ill after our lunch. The fried clams were obviously NOT fresh and my father had a Haddock sandwich which was equally not as fresh. I called the restaurant to report that we were both ill and I was informed that no one else was and Rosie was sorry. I had hoped for an enjoyable lunch with my father and I will NEVER return to this restaurant. If you want classic fried clams, better to make the trip back home! more

Great Northern Seafood 8/31/2009

I have enjoyed my last few dinning experiences at Rosie’s Clam Shack.\r The wait staff has been very accommodating, I can be a very finicky patron.\r My many years in Maryland taught me to never settle for nothing less than fresh.\r When I visit the west coast of Florida, Rosie’s is about as close as I can get to the to my old neighborhood eateries. I don’t get down here too often any more, but when I do I will make sure I stop back by. I hope Rosie is there to greet me, I’m sure she will be!\r Pros: Friendly staff, great food, outstanding atmosphere Cons: Needs a few more items on the menue more

CALL THE HEALTH DEPT!! 6/17/2009

I sat by the kitchen doors and unfortunately looked in and saw one of the cooks took a piece of meat/something out of the garbage AND RE-USED IT!!!! The kitchen looked nasty/dirty inside(no wonder its behind closed doors), the food was horrible, and the service sucked....the waitresses seemed more interested in talking to each other than doing their jobs. Really don't know how this restaurant is still in business. Pros: the chowder was actually digestible Cons: everything else more

Loved it. 5/28/2009

My husband and I went there Saturday evening for dinner and coctails before going out. I was a unsure about going to a seafood restaurant not on the beach but let me tell you I WAS WRONG. THIS PLACE WAS GREAT. We were happy and suprised to find a beautiful bar with live music. The volume was perfect. The owner ( Rosie) was behind the bar dancing and singing. Several other patrons had improvised a dance floor in the bar. After we ordered, we decided to join them. \r \r We ordered onion rings as anappitizer. They were thin sliced and crispy. We each choose a dinner special. I had the pecan crusted salmon and my husband the pasta special. They were all fantastic! The owner came over and talked with us for a few minutes. Everyone was friendly and fun. We ended up staying there.\r \r With money being tight now, It is nice to go to a restaurant that is friendly, happy to see you and cares about your experience. I loved it. Pros: Live music and not over priced Cons: Didn't see any more

Very Disappointing 5/13/2009

Six of us visited Rosie's on Monday, May 11th to celebrate our Mother's Day dinner since they are closed on Sundays and this was a favorite of our Mother's. This has been a tradition of ours over the last several years but unfortunately, that tradition has come to an end. The first issue was that they were out of many things on the menu. The second, when asked about different menu items, the waitress was not very knowledgable and just kept saying ""you can't do that"" when asked about how they prepare different seafood items and the different dinner combos. When we asked the owner Rosie to come to the table to speak with us about the menu, she was seemed bothered that the game she was playing at the bar was being interrupted and she was very rude. Four of us had dinner salads and the final straw was when they arrived, more than half of each of them had black, wilted lettuce and tomatoes that were on the verge of going bad. It was disgusting. It was not a pleasant experience so we then asked for the check to pay for our drinks because we were leaving and Rosie became very angry. We will NEVER go back and will let everyone know how bad it was. They used to have delicious food, great prices and a friendly staff but not anymore. We have gone there for many years and have raved to our friends and family about the place and have even recommended the restaurant to people that have visited from New England. Unfortunately, the only thing we will have to say about the place now is how horrible the experience was and how bad the food was that they tried to serve us. Cons: Bad Food and Terrible Service and Atmosphere more

Awesome place 4/20/2009

My family and I tried Rosie's over the weekend and had a WONDERFUL experience. The seafood quesadilla's were to DIE for, as were my lemon-peppered scallops! My husband ordered lobster (he loved his) and the kiddos got kid baskets -- which all were very pleased with. Food was wonderful and service was even better -- we even met Rosie (she is a hoot!) who we had heard great things about.\r \r We'll definitely go back and we recommend this place. \r \r Pros: great food and a fun time -- plus doesn't break the bank Cons: None really more

DONT WASTE YOUR TIME REALLY DONT 2/17/2009

well this place is not the greatest i have had better the food is satisfactory the service is horrible i went to rosies today for lunch TUESDAY FEB 17 2009 this is not the first time i have been there and this isnt the first time i have had poor service there FRIDAY in JANUARY and a SATURDAY in JANUARY were the other two times i have went with my wife BUT DEFINETLY THE LAST TIME i have had it with cold food and poor service i just want a decent fish sandwich around here seems the only place to go is to McDONALDS theres is better than the past 2 seafood restuarants that i have been at i figured the past 2 times i went to rosies it was just the cook maybe he had a bad day maybe it was a new guy NOPE its just the food it self and the service well i have had the same server twice now and i can tell the difference between real and fake and she is just fake greets you like shes happy but she doesnt really smile and i dont appreciate her hair in my food either arent there codes for that or put it up atleast i think when it goes past your sholder blades they should have it up. There is one great thing that i do love about the place and that is the owner. the owner (rosie) comes up to at times if shes not busy and chats with you makes you feel wanted now if her servers did that i would probably give it another shot but as long as the server i have had the past 2 times is there i will not even bother going in so you make the choice for your self but as for me i will not recommend this place to anyone Pros: owner greets the table Cons: the service more

TRY THIS PLACE! 1/18/2009

We arrived at the restaurant about 8:30pm to find a parking lot full of cars and harleys. The restaurant consisted of a full liquor bar segregated off by a 3/4 wall from the main restaurant area. The bar was pretty full as was the restaurant. (Good sign to me.) The place looked exactly lie I expected it to look, a clean, well lived in place, full of personality. \r \r I was impressed to see that the namesake Rosie was really there, hard working, serving, bartending, greeting, & conversing with her patrons! The staff was full of family obviously extending generations when you hear someone refer to Rosie as ""Grandma"".\r \r We ordered steamed littlenecks w/drawn butter and crab and cheese poppers for appetizer, My wife ordered a fried mahi sandwich, my son the typical 4 year olds meal of grilled cheese, and I ordered the stuffed baked sea scallops.\r \r Clams were perfectly steamed and were great! The poppers were awesome! (I only got a few my wife gobbled them up!) My wife's sandwich came out grilled by accident, typical of her she didn't say a thing and boy was she happy. She ate the whole sandwich and didn't even offer a bite! (Not normal for her at all) She said the sandwich was very good. My scallops came out looking great. It was a full plate of about 10 large scallops circled around homemade seafood stuffing. (It was very close to a scallop dish I make except it was missing white wine) The meal couldn't have been better! \r \r Rosie and her family made us feel at home! Rosie also made it a point to meet her guests and learn their names even to the point of introducing my son to another little girl in the restaurant. Rosie is full of life and loves to have fun and this shows by her restaurant. \r \r We will in no doubt be visiting this restaurant often. The place is definitely a local favorite for good seafood and drinks for all groups of people. I highly recommend trying this place. You will defiantly get your moneys worth here.\r \r Thank you Rosie!!! Pros: In Expensive, Good, Fun more

Great neighborhood seafood joint. 11/6/2007

They greet you at the door and are genuinley happy you have chosen their restaurant. The Volcano Rolls are AWESOME - and that is just the start! The Beer is cold, the food is hot and the people are great! We met Rosie & Carl out surfing. They are also members of our local Surfrider chapter. They have done so much for our club we had to come check our their place. Boy are we happy we did - we surely didn't know what we were missing. Highly recommend you visit them. Pros: Food, Service, Price Cons: Closed on Sunday more

Rosie's, Love it! Great Seafood/great restaurant! 6/18/2007

Rosie's our favorite seafood restaurant. Why would anyone pay a fortune to get great seafood? Rosie's is not the average, overpriced, pompous restaurant you can find on the beach. It's a neighborhood ""whole in the wall"" restaurant locals go to. Prices are very reasonable, the wait staff a hoot as is Rosie. We always have a great time eating there ""smoozing"" with everyone including Rosie. You can tell when you go in that you are going to be ""taken care of!"" You can keep the small plated, foo-foo food. I love the coconut shrimp w/ the Pina Colada dipping sauce. Their clam chowder is also great. The telling of a great place is when you see someone getting a dish you didn't order, you feel you've missed something. Make sure you say hi to Rosie (I'm sure she'll come to your table). Pros: Great food; great prices; very homey Cons: Closed on Sundays; not close to my home. more

once you go there they know you for life 9/12/2006

Ok! Guys if you are looking for someone to talk to and have great food while doing it, this is the place to go. The staff at Rosie's will remember you ever time you come in. I am a very picky eater and every time I go to Rosie's I feel that they know us. Before we even sit down they know what it is we drink and have it ready for us. And to rebut what the other reviews say, it is true!! Yes it is not your TIE and JACKET kind of place but if you want to wear it they wont say anything they welcome all walks of life and never look down on anyone for what they are out side of the restaurant. They are there to make you smile when you walk in and they will do anything they can to make sure you are smiling more when you leave. And if you ever have an issue Rosie the owner is always there and willing to talk to you and make things right. I have been going to Rosie's since December of 05 and I must say that I am very happy when I leave there. I enjoy every minute I am in there. The food is always the way we want it good and hot. The people there are friendly and they work very hard to keep you coming back. And further more EVERY place you go to is not for every ones taste! Some people like the stiff neck places and SORRY you will not find that here but you will find good food, fun times, great friendly service, and good whole some laughing. I Highly Recommend that you try them out and see if they are your type of people and hopefully you enjoy them as much as I do. Pros: good food, fun times, great friendly service Cons: this is not really a con but it is a small owned business, not to many left more

AVOID ANY DAY 7/27/2006

I HAD THE MISFORTUNE OF TRYING TO HAVE DINNER AT THIS SHACK LAST NIGHT. LET ME SAY SHACK IS THE PROPER WORD. THE FOOD I DID ORDER WAS COLD. I REQUESTED FRESH LITTLE NECK CLAMS AND WAS SERVED FROZEN ONES. I SURELY CAN TELL THE DIFFERENCE. THE SOUP WAS SERVED COLD. \r \r WITH COLD SOUP AND FROZEN CLAMS I DID NOT TAKE A CHANCE ON ORDERING AN ENTREE\r \r more

Affordable seafood with Family Service Style! 4/27/2006

After dealing with major seafood chain disappointments, I finally found a place where I can have seafood at acceptable prices without some server aka salesperson in my face trying to sell me more food than I want. The commercial coldness is far away in this place replaced with the warmth of wood paneled walls, ocean-themed decor and down-to-earth servers who care more about you then their ticket sales. You aren't a table number here, you are a neighbor and the prices are extremely fair allowing you the luxury of ordering fresh fish and lobster without a special occasion. If you are looking for overpriced menus, trendy sales pitches, pushy servers and a two hour wait, than Rosies isn't for you. However, if you want to eat at a place that remembers your face, pleases your seafood cravings, and has fun doing it at a reasonable price then check it out. Pros: Affordable Seafood, Relaxed Atmosphere, Genuine Service Cons: Small Establishment, Limited Side Orders more

don't waste your time 4/5/2006

if you are looking for wicked good seafood in the tampa bay area try Boston Cooker a lot more food, better service, and much nicer in appearance for the same price. also don't bother trying to use an entertainment discount. peortions are much smaller with a discount card. place needs to be remodeled. servers appear to be either biker chicks or have served more time than food. may not leave hungry but definitely not full. charge extra if you want a roll with dinner $1.25 even the tonic was flat Pros: not crowded, belly clams Cons: small portions, biker chicks, watery food more
