I first heard about the Sugar Shack from Beyonce's birthday bash. Sugar Shack was the catering for the entire event. The food and service at the catering along with the lifesize...

I was very disappointed at their service at the new downtown location. Once the orders came, we were told they were out of mash potatoes. Instead, I had to order rice. When it...

Best Sweet Tea in Town; Try one of their 100 martini's 8/1/2006

I visited the Sugar Shack last week (July 30th). The food and the music were both Fabulous! The atmosphere was truly amazing. I tried the Lobster Drop appetizer and I have never had anything so delightful.... I high recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants great food and A list entertainment. Pros: Great Food, Great music, good service Cons: Long wait on Fridays more

Anything but sweet 7/23/2006

OMG where do I start? My girlfriend and I went to this place one weekend. I wanted martinis because I heard that they have the biggest martini selection in Houston. First off we were seated near the bar which was a good thing until I noticed a rapid drip coming from a light fixture of all places. Not a big deal. We ordered lemon lime martinis and my girlfriend ordered meal. The waiter brought us water in a carafe; we sipped on the water till I noticed that there was brown at the bottom of the carafe. Now I easily, get disgusted at the sight of uncleanliness so I ask for him to cancel our order and bring the drinks. Our martinis tasted like the bitter part of a lemon, and then we requested cosmos. The Cosmos tasted like old cough syrup. They brought us corn pancakes and syrup. Well someone in the back decided to use salt in the recipe instead of sugar. So the first taste spiked my bloodpressure. Then the computers were down so when I was ready to leave after all that excitement I, along with other patrons had to wait about 20 minutes extra for them to boot their computer. I tried and Ill pass next time. It was like something out of a movie for me. Pros: Nice atmosphere except the drippy light Cons: Martinis are not good more

Don't bother with take out 7/17/2006

My husband and I were pretty excited about this place opening up, after seeing the impressive menu they have online. I called to order takeout using their web To Go menu. After being put on hold a couple of times, I was told that their policy is that I can't order to go over the phone. (What?) I have to come into the restaurant, order there and wait for it, which they said would take about 20 minutes. Do these folks know nothing about running a restaurant? Pros: none Cons: Either offer to-go or don't - make up your mind more

Authentic New Orleans Cuisine 7/11/2006

The food was really good. Being from SOUTH Louisiana, I know the difference in real creole cusine and cajun knockoffs! The food was great and even the Hurricane Katrina drink made you feel you were in the BIG Easy! The only bad thing was the wait staff was REALLY slow! My husband and I waited 1 1/2 hours after we placed our order to get our main dish. The atmosphere was nice enought to make up for it, but were late for our movie date!!!!!! Overall, I would suggest going when you have the time to sit back and enjoy. more

Lovely atmosphere 6/25/2006

I loved this restaurant. I went with 3 of my friends on Saturday night (the 2nd day it was open). There was "mandatory" (term used loosely) valet parking . The seating time was reasonable for the amount of people that were already seated. The hostess and waiter were very friendly. I loved the atmosphere, the jazz band playing in the back. The food was soooo good! I had the twin pork chop plate. I was praying that it was good enough to pay $12 or $13 for it (and it was). It was served in a skillet (very original). (YOU MUST TRY THE CORN! It was different from any corn I had ever seen or tasted but it was so good. I ate every last piece of food and was full...yet very satisfied.) The general manager stopped at our table and introduced himself and asked how everything was. He was very friendly. I agree with the first review...the music could've been a bit lower. But overall, it was a wonderful experience and I would definitely go back. I do agree that it would probably be best for a couple or a small group. It's not the kind of restaurant that they would push tables together for a large party--although I'm sure you could. Pros: Ambience, Food, Service Cons: Not for the regular "dollar menu-ers" but price reasonable for quality of food more

  • In Short
Dark paneling and an elegant yet unpretentious environment creates the perfect setting for Southern cuisine amidst live music seven days a week. The massive menu offers an abundance of options from Creole classics like etouffee and crawfish crusted redfish, to down-home calorie-packed favorites such as meatloaf and buttermilk fried chicken. Over sixteen scrumptious side dishes, including several heart-healthy options, ensures that even the kiddos will eat their veggies without complaint.
