I have been going to The Rollercave most weekends with my kids (elementary school age) for over two years. It is a fun place and inexpensive. Admission for 2 hour sessions is $4, extra $2 if you need to rent skates. You may skate with just about any kind of roller skate you bring in: regular quad skates, inlines, plastic things that strap on shoes, barbie skates, etc... Other than open skating, it is popular for school parties and birthday parties. There is a small snack bar (pizza, hot dogs, soda) and a few video games. The center of the skating floor is an elevated club-style dance floor, which the kids love when they get tired of skating.
The have three main types of session: Family Fun, Family R&B, and Jam Zone. Family Fun is geared toward elementary school kids with appropriate music (chicken dance, limbo contest, etc...) and birthday party groups. Family R&B plays more Top 40 hits, all radio edit, and has fewer little kids. Jam Zone is the late Fri and late Sat session, appeals to teens, and plays mostly Hip Hop and R&B, also all radio edit.
Although the crowd contains skaters of all levels, there are usually some very good skaters there during the Jam Zone who will astound you.
Check out the website at rollercave.com and be sure to call the daily recorded information before heading out.
