Not Bad 4/2/2010

I love the look in side the place. Has a great deli 1950's decor. Pros: The Decor and Chopped Liver Cons: Kishka and Gravy more

Ca-ching! 11/3/2009

In all honesty, I've never eaten at the Roll 'n Rye, but I heard their ad on the radio and went on-line to cop a look. The one common factor (no deli pun intended) in all the reviews is that they are way overpriced. I can't imagine what they do with their profits, 'cause they sure didn't spend it on the ad, which was strictly amateur. If they care that little about their image, I'm wondering how much they care about the food. Maybe next time I have $20 I don't need I'll go in for a sandwich. Cons: Too much dough for the bread. more

Rip Off 10/15/2009

I went with my wife to try this place out and it smelled like urine. I just sucked it up not wanting to make my wife upset. I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich and she ordered 2 pancakes. The bill was over 27.00. WTF?! Cons: Smelled like Urine more

I love this deli 2/7/2009

I think this may be the best deli in L.A. Actually it's more Chicago style than New York. Great food, wonderfully friendly wait staff and management. We love their Sunday brunch. Yes, it's not cheap, but the portions are large and so we often split. more

Better than average deli food really poor value for money 8/28/2008

This place, while offering better than average NY style deli fare, and I'm being charitable here, is a very poor value. Most NY Style delis are overpriced (which is why I tend not to frequent them) but Roll 'n Rye takes the cake. For instance a 1/2 sandwich, cup of soup combo w/tax comes out to $16... takeout. more

Pricey but deli-sh 1/29/2008

I've been for lunch several times and the food is always good. The veggie burger isn't dry like most, the monte cristo and grilled cheese are chees-ily wonderful, and the pastrami sandwich GI-NORMOUS! Even the sides are really well done...the fries, the soups, the coles slaw - all really yummy and fresh tasting. They have a huge menu so if you go there, try and have an idea of the general kind of food you want. It feels like a really spacious and cleaner NYC deli. The service is friendly and they never handle the cash, just pay up front when your ready to go. BUT this place is pretty pricey, especially considering its lunch. Pros: NYC deli food. Cole Slaw! Huge selection of food Cons: pricey more

If you want good food, you'll have to pay 7/5/2007

Finally a place in Culver City worth going to twice. Great food, friendly service and lots of choices, especially for vegetarians. Prices are a little high but I left feeling like it was worth it. Pros: quality of food, friendly service Cons: pricey more

Holishkes - Is This Place Good! 12/29/2005

Bagels and lox, gefilte fish, matzah ball soup, knishes, blintzes, latkes, kugel, and egg creams. It's all here and more. And it's all good. Bubbeh and Zaydeh will love it. But come here for the excellent Jewish comfort food, not the grilled chicken sandwich or hamburger and fries. That you can get anywhere. No, this is one of those special places that offers great food that is really not around anymore. And for this you have to pay a little more. It ain't Taco Bell or Chinatown Express. This is GOOD food. There's a difference, and it comes at a price. So dig a little deeper in your pockets and enjoy food. You'll be glad you did. L'CHAYIM! Pros: Deli Heaven, New Yawk Fare, Homestyle Cons: Not for everyone, It'll cost ya more

BEST HIDDEN JEWISH DELI IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA 11/28/2005

While prices are high, so is the quality and quantity of each meal. Come hungry and you will not be disappointed. Have been coming to this institution for 40 years and look forward to each dining experience. I have never had to wait for a table and the service is very pleasant. Try it once and you will be a repeat customer. Pros: qualify food, large menu Cons: prices a bit high more

It's a Find 11/3/2005

The food here is amazing. Sure the prices are a bit on the high side but you can't beat the portions. You won't leave this place feeling unsatisfied. The pickled sides are amazing, I hear its an old family recipe... don't miss the pickled tomatoes, wow!. The place is a classic traditional Jewish Deli. Good people, good atmosphere, great eats. Don't miss it. Cheers. Pros: pickles, cold cuts, lox Cons: n/a more

The best in Culver City! 4/11/2004

My family and I have been eating there for almost 20 years. The food is great! I do not have a problem paying for a higher quality of food. There sandwiches are great, there dinners great and there deli fish platters are perfect! My brother goes there and eats the $50.00 one for himself (What a PIG!). They do have great food and reasonable prices. Pros: Great food, Plenty of parking, Great food more

Good Food But EXPENSIVE 7/28/2003

If you're not paying, then you will enjoy Roll 'N Rye a lot. Their food is very good and there's a big variety of things to order. If you're paying, you might want to pass; it's VERY expensive. The atmosphere is outdated but kind of fun. It's a tough call. If you're willing to spend some bucks, give it a try. Again, the food is definitely good. Pros: Good Food, Yummy Pickles Cons: Too Expensive, Outdated Decor more

Good food but at outrageous high prices! 11/22/2002

Terrific Jewish deli you've never expect to find in the Target shopping center in Culver City. Unfortunately the deli is charging prices like they are perched on a seaside cliff in Malibu. Here's some sample prices from 11.15.02. Spinach Omelette - $10 Franks 'n Beans served with salad and bread - $10 (this is one of the cheaper Daily Favorites) Monte Cristo sandwich - $10.50. Those are take out prices folks - if you ate their you end up paying well over $14 (tax and tip) for a hot dog and a coke. I'd love to meet the editorial writer that ranked this restaurant. a 7 on value. I guess he usually pays a lot more than $14 for hot dogs and coke in LA. Pros: food, service, parking Cons: cost, value, cost more
