Roger Williams Natl Memorial

Great park located in the heart of Providence. It is right by the water, and I do a lot of my running there. As far as city running goes it is very serene, but of course any city park will be relatively noisy and crowded. They have boat rides that you can do on the rivers, which are also very fun. more

The park is really lovely. A great place to have a picnic. Yes, its a city park so it is not without noise or people but that is to be expected. There are paddle boats and boat rides available that show of the beauty of the park. If you really want to feed geese you can and there is a playground for the kids. There are also trails, but I haven't been on them. more

Roger Williams National Park is not at all what I think of when I think of a National Park. I guess that's why it's called a Memorial Park. The entire place is only 4.5 acres, and encompasses one small block in Providence's historic district. Most of the park is no different than any other city park, but the grounds do include a Visitor's Center and the site of the freshwater spring where Williams founded Providence. I did not find the well all that exciting; the Visitor's Center is definitely the highlight of the park. The park ranger is very knowledgeable and I found I learned a lot about Roger Williams and his importance to both Rhode Island and the entire nation. Chances are you will not spend more than an hour or two at the park, but that was not a disappointment to me at all since there is a lot more walking and beautiful history to be seen in the rest of historic Providence. more
