Editorial review from Citysearch 11/18/2012

I write this review from the perspective of a first timer. At 19 weeks I was forced to look for a new practice due to not being able to ""afford"" Rockhill cancelling appointments at last minute! Out of 3 appoinments 2 of them were cancelled. Both times I had already made the 40 minute commute to their office and had taken personal leave from work to attend. I am now stressed out becuase they are trying to bill me for appointments they cancelled. I also am fighting a bill they charged me for a ""routine"" ultrasound. I didn't know what that meant (again I am a first timer). The ultrasound turned out to be actually be ""medically necessary"" so I was not supposed to be charged. Due to the fact that they cancelled 2 of my 3 appointments and the struggle I am having with billing issue I would suggest to look around for a different practice. It seems as though during pregnancy time files faster then ever, do not waste any of your percious time (or money) with this practice!!! more

We're Happy Here 6/9/2011

I was really apprehensive about being seen here after reading the negative reviews here and on other sites. My primary physician did a referral for me, and being new to the area (plus needing to be seen sooner rather than later due to issues with my old OB...family practitioner actually) I left the choice up to them. They gave me the name of the practice, and then the online research began. I was already 22 weeks pregnant, and my first appointment with a nurse (Kathy if I remember correctly) went very well. Everyone from check-in to check-out was both professional & nice. I went back for my second appointment today where I saw Dr. Vandenboom. This was a great appointment as well. The ultrasound tech was very thorough, and I love the fact that they record the ultrasound on a DVD if you provide one. Again check-in to check-out was great including the nurse (or lab tech...I don't know) that has drawn my blood on both occasions. Dr. Vandenboom was a breath of fresh air. Overall both my husband and I are very happy...our 2 yr old son as well (he was treated very nicely which you might think would be a given...but it isn't always). I do plan to update or post another review after my child is born. I was seen at the Lee's Summit office. 11/14/2011 My daughter is now a little over 2 months old. I was seen every 2 weeks briefly, and then quickly went to weekly since I was already so far along when I started being seen here. Every visit was great as was my actual delivery and 6 weeks check-up. I doubt that we'll still be living here if/when I have another baby, but if we are I will definitely choose Rockhill & Dr. VandenBoom again. I met Dr. Amsterdam once when she came by to check my incision during the weekend that I was in the hospital, and Dr. Pearman once when she came by to sign my discharge order. I could have the two mixed up, but either way they were both nice & professional. All of my other visits and interactions were with Dr. VandenBoom; I cannot say enough good things about him. He has a great reputation...I kept hearing things from nurses and other staff like oh Dr. VandenBoom is your doctor...he's very particular....he's very thorough and things like that. I have to agree, and I appreciate it. I did visit the other Rockhill location for one appointment, and the staff there was nice too. I prefer the facilities at Lees Summit though because they were just nicer/newer. more

Nurses are deceptive... 2/2/2011

I went in for my first appointment (at 10 weeks and only with a nurse) having lost 13 lbs in 2 weeks from nausea and vomitting. I had not drank water in three days, or had anything else by mouth because I was so ill from ""morning sickness"". I had been to the Emergency Department twice for dehydration and had received numerous liters of fluid. At my first appointment, the nurse who did my interview was very nice and asked the physician (who I never saw) if she could give me a stronger anti-nausea pill, zofran commonly used for morning sickness. I had been taking phenergan, but its side effects include severe drowsiness and it was obviously not working (with the weight loss continuing). About 15 minutes later another nurse came in who was either attempting to deceive me for some unknown reason or who had no idea what she was talking about. She told me that zofran would make me just as drowsy as the phenergan and would have all the same side effects. This nurse obviously did not know I am an emergency room nurse with my Masters degree and give zofran CONSTANTLY to my patients and that I was fully aware the zofran does NOT cause drowsiness (especially drowsiness like phenergan causes). Then, when she gave me the prescription after having to convince her I needed it she proceeded to tell me ""zofran is as old as the hills, we have been using it forever and ever""....well...zofran is a relatively new drug on the market, so this was another blatantly ignorant statement. \r I am not sure if this nurse was just ridiculously uneducated in her field or just trying to coerce me out of taking a medication I desperately needed but either way it is completely unacceptable and has made me very concerned about delivering with this group. I was told to make a follow up appointment for the next week but they couldn't get me in for another three weeks...pushing me into my second trimester before I even SEE a physician for the first time. In that next week I lost another 7 lbs but was finally able to start drinking water ONLY because of the zofran. more
