Great, prompt service and easy to get in and out! 3/7/2008

I've been taking my pets here for years, and it's easy to get them treated for whatever ails them, and their price on Frontline Plus isn't bad. I've even been able to get medication for my cat's tapeworm w/o bringing my poor kitty down to the clinic. This clinic has been around for years, with a great reputation! It doesn't cost you a fortune to have your pet looked at, and you DON'T need an appointment, which is GREAT in my book! The best time to go is right at 1:30 when they come back from lunch, and I guarantee you'll be in and out quickly! Pros: Inexpensive, Friendly Staff, and no appointment needed! Locally-owned, not a chain. Cons: Older building, not the best record-keeping system. more

  • The Rock Island Animal Hospital has provided advanced veterinary care to dogs and cats in the Quad Cities area since the 1940's. Dr. Richard Coster purchased the practice in 1960 and was joined by Dr. Larry Tadlock in 1971. Dr. Coster retired in 2004 and Dr. Tadlock continued the practice. In June of 2004, Dr. Jill Rigg joined Rock Island Animal Hospital as an Associate Veterinarian. In February of 2010, Dr. Elizabeth Narske took over for Dr. Tadlock, who is now enjoying his semi-retirement. We are committed to providing the best services possible to help your pet live a long and happy life. This commitment to the well being of your pet includes upgraded equipment such as x-ray equipment and an in-house lab that will help us give a prompt diagnosis and quick treatment to each patient. Our hospital is easily accessible and is convenient to residents in Rock Island, Moline, Milan, Davenport and Bettendorf. Services: The Rock Island Animal Hospital is a walk in clinic. We ask that you try to be here 30 minutes prior to closing time. Emergency patients will be seen first. Any procedure requiring anesthesia will be done by appointment only. General Services: Examination by observation using all 5 senses, history and appropriate testing leads us to a treatment plan for a variety of patient illnesses such as organ failure, injury, infections, parasites, dental and other diseases. We see dogs, cats and some pocket pets. Surgery: In addition to spays, neuters and declaws, we routinely perform injury repair, tumor removal, diagnostic (biopsy), gastrointestinal and urinary tract procedures. Anesthesia: As there are many modalities available, we choose an anesthesia protocol based on the procedure and the specific needs of the patient. We use current philosophies that include preemptive analgesia, multimodal drug combinations and local/regional analgesic blocks. Patients receive intravenous catheters and fluids appropriate for their needs. We use isoflurane inhalant anesthetic. Current anesthesia monitoring equipment is used including E.K.G, non-invasive blood pressure, pulse oximetry, temperature and caponmetry. Qualified technicians/assistants monitor and record patient’s parameters while they are anesthetized. Recovery includes quiet environment with warming equipment and continual monitoring. Patients are evaluated and treated regularly for post operative needs including pain management. Pain Management: Though patients can fail to exhibit pain after surgery, we believe that pain accompanies most procedures. We treat all surgical patients appropriately for pain before and following the procedure. Our goal is the minimize stress and discomfort that can be present prior to surgical/diagnostic procedures and during the recovery period. We also offer pain management consultations for patients with chronic pain due to osteoarthritis, cancer and other ongoing conditions. Laboratory: Our in-house cell counter and chemistry equipment allow us to do routine blood and urine evaluations and have results within 30 minutes. This helps us to understand the patients needs and to administer therapy right away. X-ray: Our upgraded equipment allows us to have radiographic views within minutes and gives us the ability to diagnose and begin treatment quickly. Dentistry: Our new dental equipment for scaling, polishing and dental x-ray for tooth and bone evaluation, gives us the ability to provide a dental care program to preserve and enhance a very important part of our patient’s long term health. Referrals: If there is a condition presented that we are unable to adequately define or treat, we have a network of referral opportunities locally, regionally and at the University levels that we can rely on for help in diagnosing and/or treating that condition. Prescription Diets: Many conditions can be treated or assisted in therapy by special foods developed specifically for ailments and diseases. We carry ...
