This has got to be one of my most favorite places in the state of NY.....
Rock City... Sometimes called One of the 8th wonders of the world.
The park is actually rocks! The say its prehistoric ocean floor- Quartz Conglomerate.. that is supposed to be a half billion years old--- the rocks are supposed to be 320 million years old.
Enough about the technical stuff...
The reason this is a great place to visit is the scenery-- Boulders have streets in them that you walk on.. I wont do the park justice by explaining it. There are trails- 3/4 mile long .. with steps made from erosion.. There are boulders thought to be used by the Indians- and therefore have been named Indian names.
Three Sisters, Balancing Rock and Indian Face.. Amazing to look at-
This year they added a museum, souvenir shop, and rock shop...
I have been in the Fall--- Imagine the beautiful fall colors while you walk the trail... Its gorgeous!
There are hiking trails, scenic views, picnic areas with grills, Museum.. A fun day!
They aren't guided tours--- But you are given a map.
The park is open May-October
