Riverhouse Restaurant

I and my visiting family were in Pacific City for the first time, and received a recommendation to the Riverhouse, and am I ever glad we did! I ordered a French dip sandwich with optional mushrooms, which is always a gamble. You never know if you're going to receive fatty pieces of meat with canned au jus, or if it's going to be okay. Well, this was more than okay. It was piled high with the leanest, most tender prime rib, with the mushrooms cushioned delicately in the middle. It was so darn big that I could only eat half, and since French dips don't survive well, it was a crying shame that I had to leave the other half behind! The other dishes my family ordered were halibut, and a seafood pasta, both of which were big hits. We all thoroughly enjoyed the delicious house made salad dressings, which I had previously purchased in the supermarket without knowing their origin. In any case, that was the best sandwich I have ever, ever tasted, and if I ever get back to Pacific City, I would go back to the Riverhouse in a second. I entered a door and walked up the creaky stairs, wondering whether I was in the right place. At the top of the stairs I spotted people eating at tables, but there was no host manning the host station and I wasn't sure whether I should seat myself. The one person staffing the entire dining area appeared, one tank top strap fallen down her arm like a errant bra strap, looking like a disheveled dive bar maid. Her voice was loud and raspy and she seemed to practically throw food on the tables. It was not a classy looking joint. I reluctantly sat down... and was treated to a fabulous meal. The wine and spirits list is short but good and my dinner was delicious. The portions were generous. The white cheddar and chive salad dressing, which they make (and sell in bottles), was amazing - like what I wish I was good enough to make at home. My salmon was cooked perfectly, which is extremely unusual even in fancier restaurants, and spiced just right, and even the side of wild rice pilaf was terrific. I just LOVED it. And the waitress won me over with her attention to detail and perfect timing. I felt snobby for doubting her earlier. We just stopped in to pick up some sandwiches to take to the beach. The hostess was great, chatted with us, and had good suggestions. The food was amazing and lots of it. They had a good variety in their menu from traditional to unique (Their grilled asparagus sandwich was exceptional). I can't wait to go back. Pros: Friendly service, Great food, Good value more
