Best food ever 12/28/2011

y wife and had a wonderfull meal at this former bank circa 1900. The place is unique with its safe full of wine bottles, vintage chandelier and its wall cover with Hudson Valley painting. We had a wonderful time sharing Tapatizers, small dishes of fried calamari, chicken crepe and crispy shrimps. All delicious and fun. We followed this with a salad of crips romaine, mango, goat cheese and spiced pecans. Again it was delicious. My wife had the thin crust vegetarian pizza and I the filet mignon with scampi. The pizza surpass any other one we ever tasted and my filet melted in my mouth... Through out the meal the waiter suggested several wine by the glass all under $8 and perfect for every course. We finish our meal with a creme brule and espresso. The place might need more outdoor lighting to bring it to peoples attention but it is conveniently located across from the municipal parking lot. In summer time the waiter told us there is concert across from the terrace in the municipal gazebo. This place is gem. I will go back again. more

Worst Service I Have EVER Experienced! 1/28/2011

A friend and I dined at the River Bank on January 27,2011. We had a coupon from Restaurant.com for $25 off. When we got there, there was no one to seat us. We waited 5 minutes until the manager, Lucie, came in. No apology, just walks past us to help someone she knew (who got there after us). She tells us to "sit anywhere" and brings us menus and we thank her - no response. We order an appetizer and sodas. We never got the sodas. Ten minutes later, I walk up to the bar and say "We ordered sodas - a regular and a diet." She says "I'll get them." No apology or anything. Every time she brings us something, we thank her. She never once said "you're welcome". When she did bring things, she would pass them over the railing instead of walking around to put them on the table. While waiting for our entrees, we asked for refills on our sodas. Our pitcher of water was also almost empty. About halfway through this debacle, a waiter finally arrives. Lucie doesn't say "So-and-so will be helping you now" or anything. He just shows up at our table. Not his fault since she obviously didn't bother to fill him in. She never brought our refills, so we had to ask the waiter (who, by the way, also doesn't respond when we say "thank you" - am I missing something?). By the way, sodas are $3 for a small glass and they charge for refills. We got our entrees, and while mine was delicious, my friend's steak was overcooked. We order dessert and finish it and it takes a while for the waiter to clear the plates. Most restaurants, once you have finished dessert, will have the check ready but ask you if you want anything else. Not the River Bank. We waited another 5 minutes or so and finally had to ask the waiter for the check. I give him my card and Lucie brings the receipt over for me to sign and says "Thank you." This time, I was the one not to respond. A 15% gratuity was added to the bill (a condition of the coupon) that I feel was not deserved. All in all, we spent $80 (after coupon) for good food but horrible service. more

Great food, nice place, definitely recommend it! 8/6/2010

This place is a bit small but cozy. The food was really, really good. We were pleasantly surprised. The wait staff might be a bit off their game because we requested more bread and it never came and we weren't offered more drinks. But the lobster ravioli and shrimp we had made up for it. I can't wait to eat here again! more

BAD EXPERIENCE 7/9/2010

This restaurant is awful. We went there with a coupon we purchased at restaurants.com for $25. We asked the lady (one of the owners) if the certificate was valid before getting a table, she said yes…. They took the certificate… after we ordered our food and was about to be served. She came to us with the plates on hands and said that these meals were not included in order to use the coupon. Not before we ordered? Was their mistake and she still told us they need to make money on us. So, they charged us full price on everything. I was shocked on how bad they treat clients …. I sincerely recommend to go somewhere … this restaurant ruined my night! more

Not Impressed 3/2/2009

Group of four had dinner on a Friday evening overall we were not impressed. Our beverage bill was $50 for 2 glasses of wine and one 7&7 and a soda and four coffees and at that price we were glad that the waiter never asked if anyone wanted a second drink and never asked if anyone wanted a second cup of coffee until maybe 15 minutes after we had finished coffee @ $2.50 per cup. Four people three pieces of bread we requested more bread and did not receive any addition oil. Our bill was $ 168 and we left 30 for the tip = 198 almost $50 per person. We had three appetizers clams, shrimp and crab cake which all enjoyed. Dinners were Skewer Steak was tuff and over cooked, Salmon was ok, hamburger $10 + 2 for two half slices of bacon +2 for 1 slice of cheese =$14 the last dinner was another appetizer of fresh Mozzarella Antipasto. So for $50 a person we had only 3 drinks and two Entrees and one a hamburger and the second and appetizer I was not at all impressed. The waiters were friendly but really need to get on their game from the bread to the drinks and ended with the coffees. more

Love new River Bank restaurant 3/17/2006

We've been twice now to the new River Bank restaurant, located next to Nicky's in the old Cornwall bank building. We're pleased both with the ambiance (they renovated the interior, but kept the old bank vault and some other features) and the food. On our first visit, we both tried the brick oven pizzas, in addition to a shrimp tempura appetizer. Both were delicious, as was the bread and the breadsticks our waiter brought us beforehand. The wine selection is extensive, with an admirable array of wines by the glass. The second time we ate at the River Bank, I had the duck with raspberry glaze while my sweetie had the chicken with a cornflake crust. Again, great meal, great wait service. I highly recommend giving it a try. more
