San Antonio's best Mexican food, without a doubt! 7/22/2010

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised there are no reviews for this place yet. Rita's Fiesta Cafe is arguably the #1 ""insiders' secret"" amongst locals and, according to my high standards, produces the best Mexican food in the city. The absolute BEST, no question about it. You think those downtown tourist traps are good? They're HORRIBLE compared to Rita's. Nothing can compare to Rita's, in fact. Their enchilada dinners are exquisite. Their caldos are mouth-wateringly good. They make *superb* rice and beans and their tortillas are always feather light and so, so good. I like that they serve you huge glasses of iced tea or fountain drinks because they can tend to get very, very busy and it might take awhile for your server to reach your table as a result, though they do all work very hard to keep everyone satisfied and you're acknowledged within a minute of entering the restaurant, regardless of when you make a visit, and never have I had an experience where my glass of iced tea (delicious!) has remained empty longer than about thirty seconds. One thing that makes it difficult to visit as often as I'd like is how far away I reside from the location; if I were filthy rich, I'd buy up an abandoned building close to my neighborhood and give it to the Rita's Fiesta management so I can have a Rita's close to where I live. Another drawback is the parking situation; it's located in a small strip mall area where the surrounding area is heavily built up (the neighborhood was established before the 1950s) and the parking isn't the greatest. One is often wise to try to hit the establishment during its off hours, when one doesn't have to spend about 10 minutes hunting down a parking spot. But even if one spends half an hour finding parking, it's more than worth it to get the best Mexican food in town. From their delectable chips and salsa to tantalizing menudo and breakfast specials to their dinners... it makes my mouth water just thinking about it! Pros: Great service, best Mexican food in town Cons: Inadequate parking more
